I've kept Vapourer moths as "pets" before here in the UK, so I've seen a lot of this process - they, too, look cool as caterpillars, and the adults are quite interesting as the females just have tiny little wing stubs and sit on the cocoon emitting a pheromone to attract the males (hence, "vapourer" moth).

Whoa.!! How wonderfull, the nature is..
There is no one for the the newly hatched catterpillar to be taught what to do, what to eat, how to pupate, how to fly etc etc..
Nature cares for even a tiny egg which further transforms into a beautifull butterfly..
    But, we never care.
Anyway, great hardwork done by you.!!

I raise them every year. My granddaughter & nephews help me collect caterpillars from newly hatched, to the bigguns. I have 1 enclosure for baby caters, & 1 for larger caters. Anything that's smaller than the poop, is a baby! Right now, I have over 60! During feeding times, I can literally hear them eating! I name each butterfly, then release it. I keep flowers in my front yard to place them on. I often feed them orange slices in the enclosure to give them a boost.
