On our homestead, we are dedicated to learning to live a little more self sustainably week by week. While we learn (because we are beginners), we have made a focus on helping others learn the lessons as we learn them. The way we’re doing this is by creating videos here on youtube to show what we are doing right and what we’re doing wrong.
Currently we own 5 acres and it is our homestead dream to put all 5 acres to work. We have several backyard chicken breeds, to include Barred Plymouth Rock, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Ameraucana (blue egg chicken breed), and Jersey Giants (the largest chicken breed).
We can’t wait to add geese, ducks, turkeys, sheep, goats, and maybe a mini-cow or two, to our homestead. So, If you are dreaming of starting a little homestead or micro farm, consider checking out our videos. The goal we have for this channel is to serve our viewers with helpful educational videos about homesteading for beginners, how to start a homestead, how to garden, how to raise sheep and other farm animals and so on. Thank you for checking out the channel!

27….feel the same way. I DESPISE what our society has become. People have been living on the land and they stopped living WITH the land. I know, that’s from Yellowstone, but it’s true. We lived so simply for thousands of years and now we eat food that’s genetically altered and/or “lab grown”….sickness and obesity is getting worse each year because of it. Sometime soon, society is going to reset……and the only way to survive through it is to strive for that self sufficiency factor. I could go on and on….sorry for the long comment. I’m just passionate about this lol.

24 and I agree with you and the previous comments. A connection with nature is my desire. My spirituality. But I have to play the money game until I can be where I truly long to be. Not too far to go, but still feels like a lifetime away.

I'm 53 years old, female, disabled, work from home making under $20/hour. I have worked for over 4 years to get my credit score up and to pay off all the loans I THOUGHT I would need for purchases I ThOUGHT I would need.... and FINALLY... here I am. I close on June 26th. I'm stoked! On my 1 acre, there is a 1 bedroom building. It used to be a church, but the beautiful lady selling to me turned it into her rental property. On one side of the house sits a small plot of oak trees. I will use that area as my animal location...goats, chickens... ya know. :) Around the other side of the house, I'll build my garden. I'm going to buy my first ever riding mower for this... a MZ Rambler, Bad Boy Mowers. I can't wait til end of June! I'm so excited!

I’m a 26 y/o truck driver, looking into buying land and starting my own homestead. My grandfathers dream was to have a farm and raise his own meat due to the fear of all the chemicals being put into store bought food. He passed when I was 13 and lately I’ve been wanting to live out his dream. This helped so much!

Whats up driver, I'm looking to start a homestead as well but I'm just not sure how to get into this while trucking, are you planning on doing local driving to be home everyday to take care of your land? Or are you just gonna get out of trucking and find something else to do for money?

Coming up on 32 and going from living a Portland Metro lifestyle to a ranch further west in the mountains? I find it more enjoyable than dealing with the daily traffic of I-5. The passive aggressive people. The stress of wondering if I can afford eggs. Investing my time to learn these skills has already paid off and im excited to see how far I can go. Going back to ye olden ways as you can say is... enlightening. You appreciate life more, at least I do.

Im 19, but iv ben looking into homesteading and homemaking for a couple years now! I want to set myself on the right path now so that by the time i am ready to get married and have kids, i can focus on building that up and taking care of my family rather than playing catch up. I also dont want to feel as if i cant have have kids or a large family simply because of the cost of putting food on the table. if im able to build up a fruitful home, that will be less of an issue because i would b relying on my on productivity and harvest rather than the government and economy.

I am in a suburban area. Here we can have six chickens, rabbits and quail are not regulated.
I grew up on what we called a hobby farm, with about five or six acres. the life my parents were able to provide for my sister and I was wonderful. I know in my heart i want to do the same for my kids, but we will have to move out of our current state if we want to afford to do so. As of right now, I believe if I can be successful doing things small scale in my suburban garden, steward the home I've been provided, and do my best to learn all I can, that an opportunity will present itself. If not, I still did my best with what I had at the end of each day, and that's what matters.

I’ve been thinking about getting into homesteading when I purchase property in a few years. I want to be able to produce food that doesn’t make me sick like store-brought so I can know what goes into it. I want at most 3 horses, a flock of chickens, a couple of feeder pigs and cows, and a pond for fishing. Would 10 acres be enough for that or should I look for more space?
