      Hey Sue. Now I know who's brain to pluck for growing the Alfalfa. I just ordered seeds because I am so impressed with the results that I want to grow my own. That's $24 less that I'll have to spend on this wonderful soil amendment. A lot of the bags at big box that say soil amendment is just fine bark. I want to cut down on my perlite use and this seemed a great alternative. I also use the nuggets as 25% of my blueberry growing medium.

You can make fish fertilizer the same way. I'm going fishing next week and will post a video on how to make fish fertilizer. Meantime, go purchase Alaska fish fertilizer and Alaska Morbloom. Recently I’ve watched multiple gardening videos where they say that bark chips are best used on top of soil as mulch where they will decompose over time.
    Because if mixed into soil they will lock up vital nutrients in soil to decompose bark nuggets, which leaves the plants starving.
    Have noticed this to be the case?

      It can cause a temporary tie up of nutrients. You also want to always monitor you soil pH.

    Do you have the results with this mix? I would be scared to mix that much pine bark into the mix as I’ve always been taught that the word would use nutrients, especially nitrogen, so that the plants wouldn’t have enough. Maybe you’re adding enough yucca and alfalfa pellets to compensate for this?

    • @growingoutthebox
      @growingoutthebox  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You should always have roots in the soil. I would just toss some beans in and let them run their course and you have so food. Cut the plants at soil level leaving the roots in the ground. Mow over the tops and cover back into the bed for fall adding something like little marvel peas. Do the same and you are ready for spring planting....

      I would solarize the area you want to start growing to get rid of any weeds or insects. Check out my short on how to solarize. It's very simple. It's what I do when I start a new bed. Then mix in compost into the top 6 inches. Let sit for 2 weeks and start planting. Once planted mulch very heavy. I hope that helps.
