The reason also the paper he used which it smooth so even if it look dark once u shade it it will get light so u would need something darker that's not graphite or something that mix with graphite like a carbon pencil or Pitt graphite matt pencil

Working toward realistic looking images, without the coloring book dark lines (easier to do that with PDF’s/digital downloads) and slowly, but surely working towards doing my own artwork. Doing that by adding in my own elements to the “negative white space in the images, first before trying to do my own full images. My hubby and I also have bought a drawing course. There is always something new to learn. ☺️
Hey BMD, this is your fan, Derek Mitchell. I see you keep Mentos gum near where you are drawing. Is that the secret to your great art talent? If we all chew Mentos gum, will we be as good of an artist as you?
From what I've seen.. and been hearing lately, if your interested in finding strong black pencils, for monochromeic graphite drawing.. you might want to check these others out too. Steadtler Mars lumograph, has a black series, that seem quite good. Also, I hear that fabre castle has a new matte black line that is suppose to be a dark graphite that doesn't have the strong graphite sheen that most graphite pencils have. Allowing for dark matte lines and shadowing. I haven't tried the Fabre Castle matte yet, as they are about twice the cost of the mars lumograph black, but they are suppose to be fairly equal, if done a bit differently. The mars lumograph black seem very nice and dark. Cheers.

I have managed to layer the Pierre Noir 3B over Staedtler Traditional 6b graphite but, fortuitously, the Pierre Noir tip (lead) I was exposing broke along it's length and left something just wider that a toothpick, that's what worked. Now I know to layer the Pierre Noir before the graphite when the graphite shine wouldn't be an issue.

Pierre Noire is described by Conte as 'greasy'. Do you use the same erasers you use with graphite and charcoal? If so, have you had any problems when doing this?

D lumograph black is dark, but i find it hard to blend, and hard to erase 4 highlights. Im looking forward to try the matte, soon.

How do you avoid graphite shine? Most artist struggle to avoid the shine which lightens the portrait at certain angles
U cant fully avoid it...but i minimize by not layering using hard pressure....do it layer after layer until u get the right tone
Does the Pierre Noir layer well over graphite?
I use it first and only for extremely dark parts.....then i layer graphite....because it does not layer well on graphite

Have you tried the Faber Castell Pitt Graphite Matt? If yes, would you suggest those over the Conte Pierre Noire?? Please,Which one do you like more?
Havent tried it yet, i think it will just be like regular graphite in terms of values, it will just have less bloom....it cant be as dark as d Noire

Yes, same erasers.....a bit oily but, manageable, especially if u only use it 4 super dark values
