My daughter has just had this fitted "professionally" along the back of her house wall and they haven't used the push in fitting fitting between the channel and the drain gully leaving a 1" gap between the two, her sink drain also feeds into the channel just next to the knock out so if the gully ever blocks you would end up with all the dirty sink water going under the patio and possibly through the house wall. also with no outlet fitting connected under the channel water is not directed down so it can flow anyway it wants.!!!
Great video mate going to help me replace the absolute mess that Northern Ireland Housing Executive workmen done round my house. Been getting really bad damp on new build wet room . Took a look inside the acquflow channel they installed, no end caps fitted and smashed side wall of a pre-existing gully 😡 . Cowboy builder’s wouldn’t get a look in . As the old saying goes, want something done right do it yourself . This video will help me do just that 👍

Would have been better to put a sealing ring/connector to the aco over the top of the drain pipe. Stop all the surrounding muck from falling into it, which will happen over time

Basically our builder has put blocks down and then put the damp proofing and then built on top wit bricks. We need channel drains running along side the house but would you suggest having a block placed next to the original block and a channel drain placed next to that? From this video I can see the block was visible and then you placed a block next to that and then had a channel drain installed, did you secure the new block to the old block with cement?
Thanks for stopping by the vid nice one 👍👍 you can run an aco channel along side your house /brickwork as long as its 2 course down from DPC meaning damp proof course, not sure what your builders have done but sounds like they just building up levels to get to where they need for aco channel, as long as the aco channel is 6inch down from dpc it will be fine if you'd like to put an edgeding around it That's a great choice looks great to cheers and hope it all works out fine 👍👍👊

@@colinratford416 The size of a soakaway depends on the volume of water that's going into it ,this is determined by the size of your roof, a soakaway needs to be at least 5m away from the building and 2 and a half metres from a boundary, no waste such as sewage water should be going into the soakaway rainwater from your roof and surface water only, they do a soakaway calculator online, this gives you the right size you need to make your soakaway going off the volume of water going into your soakaway, if you're having an extension done then an architect who dose the drawings should work out what you need to have in place, yeah definitely do your homework before you do one plus if a groundwork team are doing it for you then they should have sound advice for you , do it properly and you won't have any problems later on 👍👍👊🏻. ,

As for foundations to , aco channel runs across 90 degree bend then I drill out a 2inch hole that the water goes directly into a 4inch pipe it don't even touch any thing else it goes straight down the pipe know what I mean did you watch the end of the vid 🤔 thanks anyway mate 👊
Hello mate thanks for stopping by the vid 👍 If you got water pooling in a certain area on your drive mate sounds like what is underneath has sunk ,it might be cheaper to lift the paving and get the paving to the right level and throw the water away from that area if the water is lying there something is not right with the levels I wouldn't put an aco channel there mate from the aco channel the water needs to go to a soakaway hope this helps mate but I'm only guessing we're the water is pooling hope you get it sorted 👍 👊

@@L839-t1h You've just had a concrete drive layed and expansion joints are " normally" formed before you concrete , the water your seeing is in a low spot mate and unless you overlay that area then the water will keep on being there plus you always see a patch from the overlay so it's probably done to a bad finish mate if it's so annoying then take that section of concrete up and redo it 👍👊
Thanks for subscribing Robert nice one mate 👍👍 If I was returning the aco channel on a 90 degree angle ,I'd cut both aco channel on a 45 degree angle to form a 90 degree angle you can use a good sealant to make the seal on the join thats how I would do it mate , all depends on what aco channel your using and if they do a 90 degree peice you can buy, but I normally do it the way I've just said works a treat every time, thanks for watching appreciate it alot 👍👍👍.
I’m confused wouldn’t it be better to stagger the opposite edging joint? Also what’s stopping the edging dropping in places over time as they don’t seem to be compacted in? Not in the trade I’m just a massive DIY fan & looking to do something similar on my gaff 😊
Thanks for watching mate 👍👊 Yeah the concrete edgings are separate from each other for one plus they are layed on a 5 to 6inch concrete bed you got to get the mix to the right consistency not to wet not to dry then bed the edgings in then lay them to a line there going know where you got to make sure your sub base is good to when your good to go, concrete your edgings in I did them on a 5 to 6inch concrete bed No need to stagger joints when doing this we not laying flooring Thanks for stopping by mate 👍 👊
george stronach: Thanks for watching pal 👍👍 I bedded the aco channel in concrete I mixed up loose ballast and cement 4 to 1 ratio nice and strong you can do this in a mixer or by hand if your fit, the aco channel needs to be on a nice base i layed them on about 4ich of concrete , yeah give it a go man I'm here to help if you have any more questions good luck with your project 👍👍.
Random thought: @ 6:41 could you have used that "short" concrete bit upside down? Ie the chamfer would be buried in concrete / soil? Great video, good efficient worker. I could watch hard / skilled work all day... ;)

Hi there, my name is Sam (excuse my joke-based username btw 😂)and I'm new to the hard landscaping trade having come from the general gardening as well as soft landscaping trade. I have had some labouring experience with hard landscaping so I've starting off with small patios as well as driveways over the past year as I am not interested in general gardening work these days. I've recently looked at a job where the customer wants a little patio installing up against the house with the levels appearing to fall towards the house as opposed to the garden. I'm thinking aco drains as they would look the most aesthetically pleasing however as well as there being the main rainwater drain there is also their wastewater drain up against the house where the falls meet. How do I work around this without damaging the wastewater pipe whilst installing the acos to fall into the main rainwater drain? I'm not having any luck finding videos on how to do this properly and safely. Thanks!
Hi Sam 👊 sorry for late reply mate 🤦 yeah sometimes you get them sort of jobs ideally you need the water to run away from the building you can do an aco channel and keep it off the brickwork /blockwork with edgings about an inch that way you can come right up to the threshold and won't bridge the DPC it's hard to know what your up against mate without seeing it I hope you get or already have got it sorted mate and all the best in what you do thanks for stopping by my vid man and thanks for your comment nice one 👍 👊
Dave lowe 👍the rainwater system is on a completely different set up from the foul/ sewer system there not combined , the pipe I'm connecting on to leads to a catchment chamber with a trap , probably with a none return valve also having air pipes fitted to it ,there definitely wont be any smell coming back up to the aco channel that's for sure thanks for your feedback appreciate it mate 👍.
@@creativecrambo I’m looking to install a channel drain and connect to a combined soil and rainwater system. Without putting a gully in which won’t be accessible after I’m finished I can’t work out how I’m going to stop foul smells coming back and out fo the channel drain. My channels are the 4all brand. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do have a near by rain water gully that could be changed to accommodate it but I don’t think I could get the fall required on it.
@@davelowe7565 There has to be a trap gully some where on the setup your doing and accessible, the trap gully stops the smells coming from your drain its like your toilet system, the toilet is fitted with a trap so you don't get no smells ,unless I can look at the job your talking about I carnt really give you sound advice but all pipes need access to be roding in basic terms you got to incorporate a trap to stop any fowl /waste smells then do your pipe work needed sounds like you got a bit of a job on your hands mate if I could see it then I'd be able to judge it 👍👍👍.
Sorry to hear that , sounds like they didn't put shingle under and over the drainage, if you have shallow drain pipe then you have to put concrete over the pipe to protect it in this case I layed 4inchs over it if the drain doesn't go down 2 foot then this is the procedure you do . Conor mcdade : Thanks for watching man👍 I used ballast mixed with cement, I normally do a 4 to 1 mix ,that being 4 ballast to 1 cement if I was mixing up in a cement mixer, on this job I used a digger to mix the ballast and cement I used 6 bags of cement to a tone of ballast nice strong mix 💪 thanks for your feedback 👍👍.
Hi jack 👍 I didn't use the aco end caps, I formed the end cap using the 2" by 6" concrete edging works perfect I have used the end caps before but when I was forming the 90 degree return the edging made a perfect stop end with a very slight fall back to the outlet, the stop ends work but the way I did it dose the same job thanks for stopping by the vid mate appreciate it 👍👍🤜.
@@jackhopkins9618 yeah man haunch the concrete up around , the aco CHANNEL I layed was on a bed of nearly 6inch concrete aco CHANNEL all bedded down nicely with a concrete edging stop end also bedded in concrete it definitely works 💯 and there's always other ways to make it work rather then looking at the rule book, thanks for your feedback jack nice one👍, and its nice to talk to someone who wants to get over a problem or situation rather then cause one . 👍👍🤜🤛👌👌👌. Robert kilminster : Thanks for watching 👍 That is I great question: the rule of thumb is 5mm to 1m of aco channel so all depends on the length you are going you can work out the fall, the aco channels normally come in 1m lengths so its easy to work out the fall, as long as the water can drain away and has no back fall your all good man 👍.

Does it not look noticeable that one end of the drain is 20-25mm higher one end than the other? Am I also right in thinking that you can connect the aco to a gully that just collects waste water from the kitchen sink? Thanks for the advice. @@robertkilminster3402 I've put these aco CHANNELS in with just the turn of the bubble on your level and they work just great you have 4inch of depth on the aco channel the water will never build up and cause you any problems over 5m as long as the water flows to the outlet that's all you need 👍 good luck with your project and hope it turns out ok , if I can be of further help just drop me a message 👍.
Thanks for watching 👍 Domestic channel drains don't have a built in fall they are made level but some commercial channel drains do have a built in fall as long as you don't have a back fall to the outlet your all good mate 👍👍 .
Pathway comes up level with damp on this job but I put an edgeding curb in 1inch from the building at the level of the damp.as not to bridge the damp course perfect for a disabled access at the fire doors

- Silicone in the joints between the drainage channel sections. - ACO do vertical adapters & and leaf guards for when mating the drainage channel to 110mm, preventing water escaping when transitioning to the 110mm. - The drainage channel didn't look like it was bedded into the concrete at all, nor did the concrete look well compacted. I very much doubt it'll survive the 1.5t load an A15 drainage channel is spec'ed to. - When joining small cut sections it's good practice (though not always possible) to offset the drainage channel covers & joints to give additional rigidity.
Sounds like you know what your talking about but in reality you don't , the ACO was bedded down on 6inch concrete plus the pathway was 6inch concrete with expansion every 8ft plus 12mm rebar in the concrete to be honest it's going nowhere mate plus I've done enough of them mate to sink a battleship I know all about the connections you can use in a perfect situation they are OK but there's other ways of doing the same job at less than half the price THANKS FOR YOUR FEEDBACK IF YOU WAS WITH ME DOING IT I'D SHOW YOU A GOOD FEW WAYS AROUND IT 💯👍👊
Is a connection not needed from the bottom of the aco to the below ground drainage like? Am in a new build and the fucking sub base is washing away under the block paving into the drain 💩
If by "waste water pipe" you mean a sewerage pipe, then this is wrong. If adding an open drain into a combined system you need to install a sump and/or trap before joining the main line. Just sayin'...

Don't like it crap! Guaranteed to get blocked over time what happens when that Aco gets clogged up with leaves and debris then goes straight into pipe system? Should have some sort of gulley to collect all the dead leaves grit ect so it can be cleaned out periodically.

After reading your comment you really don't know what your talking about that's a fact 🤔 There's no house, and the minimum depth from dpc should be 150mm 2 course down of brick standard not 75mm, don't know where you heard that from, also I've put edgings in along side the building 1inch from the building there for no bridging of the dpc and transfer of any moisture/ damp You have no clue about what it takes to do a job like this and you should think about what you say before you say it As for a very lazy job and shame on me 🤔🤣 Shame on you for not getting your facts right 💯 Plus I'm not your mate 😏

Yes it should have a trap, unless he tapped into the rain water outlet
The ACO looks great with edging either side, and the lube is a great idea, might get some for the missus

Weres the connecter from the arco to the pipe stuck up??, surely if left open when you drill hole through the foundation over time will wash away

Ive just had a drive put in, however the water is pooling at the end in one corner, would that be fixed once the aco drain is installed?

You've just had a concrete drive layed and expansion joints are " normally" formed before you concrete , the water your seeing is in a low spot mate and unless you overlay that area then the water will keep on being there plus you always see a patch from the overlay so it's probably done to a bad finish mate if it's so annoying then take that section of concrete up and redo it 👍👊

If I was returning the aco channel on a 90 degree angle ,I'd cut both aco channel on a 45 degree angle to form a 90 degree angle you can use a good sealant to make the seal on the join thats how I would do it mate , all depends on what aco channel your using and if they do a 90 degree peice you can buy, but I normally do it the way I've just said works a treat every time, thanks for watching appreciate it alot 👍👍👍.

Yeah the concrete edgings are separate from each other for one plus they are layed on a 5 to 6inch concrete bed you got to get the mix to the right consistency not to wet not to dry then bed the edgings in then lay them to a line there going know where you got to make sure your sub base is good to when your good to go, concrete your edgings in I did them on a 5 to 6inch concrete bed
No need to stagger joints when doing this we not laying flooring

Thanks for watching pal 👍👍 I bedded the aco channel in concrete I mixed up loose ballast and cement 4 to 1 ratio nice and strong you can do this in a mixer or by hand if your fit, the aco channel needs to be on a nice base i layed them on about 4ich of concrete , yeah give it a go man I'm here to help if you have any more questions good luck with your project 👍👍.
Random thought: @ 6:41 could you have used that "short" concrete bit upside down? Ie the chamfer would be buried in concrete / soil?

Hi there, my name is Sam (excuse my joke-based username btw 😂)and I'm new to the hard landscaping trade having come from the general gardening as well as soft landscaping trade. I have had some labouring experience with hard landscaping so I've starting off with small patios as well as driveways over the past year as I am not interested in general gardening work these days. I've recently looked at a job where the customer wants a little patio installing up against the house with the levels appearing to fall towards the house as opposed to the garden. I'm thinking aco drains as they would look the most aesthetically pleasing however as well as there being the main rainwater drain there is also their wastewater drain up against the house where the falls meet. How do I work around this without damaging the wastewater pipe whilst installing the acos to fall into the main rainwater drain? I'm not having any luck finding videos on how to do this properly and safely. Thanks!
Hi Sam 👊 sorry for late reply mate 🤦 yeah sometimes you get them sort of jobs ideally you need the water to run away from the building you can do an aco channel and keep it off the brickwork /blockwork with edgings about an inch that way you can come right up to the threshold and won't bridge the DPC

How do you stop the smell from the drain coming back up if you’re not using a trap of some sort?
Dave lowe 👍the rainwater system is on a completely different set up from the foul/ sewer system there not combined , the pipe I'm connecting on to leads to a catchment chamber with a trap , probably with a none return valve also having air pipes fitted to it ,there definitely wont be any smell coming back up to the aco channel that's for sure thanks for your feedback appreciate it mate 👍.

Without putting a gully in which won’t be accessible after I’m finished I can’t work out how I’m going to stop foul smells coming back and out fo the channel drain. My channels are the 4all brand. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do have a near by rain water gully that could be changed to accommodate it but I don’t think I could get the fall required on it.

There has to be a trap gully some where on the setup your doing and accessible, the trap gully stops the smells coming from your drain its like your toilet system, the toilet is fitted with a trap so you don't get no smells ,unless I can look at the job your talking about I carnt really give you sound advice but all pipes need access to be roding in basic terms you got to incorporate a trap to stop any fowl /waste smells then do your pipe work needed sounds like you got a bit of a job on your hands mate if I could see it then I'd be able to judge it 👍👍👍.

Sorry to hear that , sounds like they didn't put shingle under and over the drainage, if you have shallow drain pipe then you have to put concrete over the pipe to protect it in this case I layed 4inchs over it if the drain doesn't go down 2 foot then this is the procedure you do . That's a good question, the rainwater pipes are on a separate system

I used ballast mixed with cement, I normally do a 4 to 1 mix ,that being 4 ballast to 1 cement if I was mixing up in a cement mixer, on this job I used a digger to mix the ballast and cement I used 6 bags of cement to a tone of ballast nice strong mix 💪 thanks for your feedback 👍👍.

do you use the aco end caps? or do you just use the concrete edgings to seal the ends off of the channels?
Hi jack 👍 I didn't use the aco end caps, I formed the end cap using the 2" by 6" concrete edging works perfect I have used the end caps before but when I was forming the 90 degree return the edging made a perfect stop end with a very slight fall back to the outlet, the stop ends work but the way I did it dose the same job thanks for stopping by the vid mate appreciate it 👍👍🤜.

That is I great question: the rule of thumb is 5mm to 1m of aco channel so all depends on the length you are going you can work out the fall, the aco channels normally come in 1m lengths so its easy to work out the fall, as long as the water can drain away and has no back fall your all good man 👍.

Does it not look noticeable that one end of the drain is 20-25mm higher one end than the other? Am I also right in thinking that you can connect the aco to a gully that just collects waste water from the kitchen sink? Thanks for the advice. I've put these aco CHANNELS in with just the turn of the bubble on your level and they work just great you have 4inch of depth on the aco channel the water will never build up and cause you any problems over 5m as long as the water flows to the outlet that's all you need 👍 good luck with your project and hope it turns out ok , if I can be of further help just drop me a message 👍.

Domestic channel drains don't have a built in fall they are made level but some commercial channel drains do have a built in fall as long as you don't have a back fall to the outlet your all good mate 👍👍 .
Assuming you're filling the path with concrete just under the damp proof course 😮
Pathway comes up level with damp on this job but I put an edgeding curb in 1inch from the building at the level of the damp.as not to bridge the damp course perfect for a disabled access at the fire doors

What a rodding eye if there's a blockage 🙈
- Silicone in the joints between the drainage channel sections.
- ACO do vertical adapters & and leaf guards for when mating the drainage channel to 110mm, preventing water escaping when transitioning to the 110mm.
- The drainage channel didn't look like it was bedded into the concrete at all, nor did the concrete look well compacted. I very much doubt it'll survive the 1.5t load an A15 drainage channel is spec'ed to.
- When joining small cut sections it's good practice (though not always possible) to offset the drainage channel covers & joints to give additional rigidity.
Sounds like you know what your talking about but in reality you don't , the ACO was bedded down on 6inch concrete plus the pathway was 6inch concrete with expansion every 8ft plus 12mm rebar in the concrete to be honest it's going nowhere mate plus I've done enough of them mate to sink a battleship I know all about the connections you can use in a perfect situation they are OK but there's other ways of doing the same job at less than half the price

Is a connection not needed from the bottom of the aco to the below ground drainage like? Am in a new build and the fucking sub base is washing away under the block paving into the drain 💩

If by "waste water pipe" you mean a sewerage pipe, then this is wrong.
If adding an open drain into a combined system you need to install a sump and/or trap before joining the main line.

Don't like it crap! Guaranteed to get blocked over time what happens when that Aco gets clogged up with leaves and debris then goes straight into pipe system? Should have some sort of gulley to collect all the dead leaves grit ect so it can be cleaned out periodically.

There's no house, and the minimum depth from dpc should be 150mm 2 course down of brick standard not 75mm, don't know where you heard that from, also I've put edgings in along side the building 1inch from the building there for no bridging of the dpc and transfer of any moisture/ damp
You have no clue about what it takes to do a job like this and you should think about what you say before you say it
