It's the letters E and I that are unique in kiwi speaking . The presenter says represent and it comes out as ripresent. NZ accent though has been voted as the world's best with the South African accent coming in second.

So, to me, this sounds exactly like the short E vowel that Americans would use for words like "bet," "dead," or "met." Is it accurate to presume those would be interpreted by a New Zealand English speaker as "bat," "dad," and "mat" without any context to go off?

And for a new zealander "bet" , "dead"or "Met" are like "bit" ,"did" and "mit" , so confusing !!

Why do you not involve Polynesian accents?

What about the word “Demanding” do kiwis pronounce the “manding” part as a Trap vowel? Like do they pronounce it as “dimending”?
And what about “Balance” do they pronounce the “lance” as the Trap vowel or the same as the Bath vowel? Do you pronounce it as “belence” or “belahnce”?

Demanding is normally pronounced as : di (schwa)/mahn/ding.
Balance: is two trap vowels though the second may have a slight schwa shift bal/ance or adrift towards bal/ence
