In such a scenario identifying and holding shares of companies for long periods was a lottery.

Agree that great companies would pass through all these hurdles and become winners. But how do we know when it is passing through the times. Except saying in hindsight like now.

Its very easy to stay invested if you don’t discuss every investment with your wife. There are 50 other things to talk about. I have managed to not sell except on fundamentals for 12 years now
The best answer for a novice or a professional is to buy a low cost index fund . But in India so many fund houses are bought and sold you don’t know which fund house will last long term . Vanguard one fund VOO which is S&P index fund has over a trillion dollars just in this fund .
Pulak prasad of Nalanda showed how to hold the stocks for Long term in Nalanda. He explained it clearly in his book "What I learned about Investing from Darwin"
