In movers and shakers, we feature Nelson Muguku, a re-known poultry farmer in the country. Muguku who is ranked among the top 3 poultry breeders in the country, ventured into the business by default after losing his job as an untrained teacher in the colonial days. Tony Sanya spent some time on his farm in kikuyu and discovered Muguku has never looked back since he stumbled on his path to fortune.

I think I am wasting time lecturing in the UK, I should come home and do business in a relaxed warm climate rather than earning money and spending it all and saving nothing here.

Since no one has answered your question in all this time& in case you haven't found the answer elsewhere: He had no formal school training for what he was teaching (carpentry) &/or had no teaching certificate. He was either self taught, taught by a relative/family friend, or trained (informally perhaps) as an apprentice. He may not have been allowed to receive official training when British rule was in place in Kenya- he was working as a untrained teacher in 1957- Kenya was not independent yet .

Something about the reporter's math is wrong. Layers at 80, broilers at 50 = Av 65 x 120K = 8M = $100K. Assuming he does one lot a month that is $1.2M/Yr, 2 lots/month = $2.4M. Let's just say that this guy was printing money here.
