  • Isla Holbox is a beautiful, sleepy island, where the main focus is on relaxation. Most people will spend their time wandering the beautiful sand beaches but there are plenty of activities on offer if you find yourself getting restless! The island is particularly well known for its whale shark tours between June and September, but snorkeling trips, fishing trips and even ceviche fishing trips can be arranged outside this season. Many of these activities can be arranged by your hotel when you arrive.
Punta Mosquito (to the east) and Punta Coco (to the west) are both fantastic beaches to escape to and spend a few hours in complete seclusion, where if you're lucky you'll be able to spot flamingos. Locals say you can find some all year round, but officially the Holbox flamingo season is between April and October. Getting to the flamingos can be a little difficult, however the walk is beautiful. Park your bike or golf cart at Las Nubes hotel (you can’t go any further) and get ready for a one hour walk. From the beach, walk towards the sandbank which is easily visible and just keep following the sandbank till you get to the tip. You'll walk through water but it’s usually ankle or knee-deep. We would suggest doing this first thing in the morning as the tide rises early afternoon.

It didn’t seem to bother us and easy to avoid if you wanted to go into the sea.

Hi Doug many thanks for your comment, much appreciated. The streets are mostly hard sand, we were there for 3 nights and spent most of this time in the beach, and restaurant area. We didn't have any power loss while we were there. Wifi and mobile internet good. Have a great holiday!
