“ព្រះម៉ែកាលី” ទ្រង់គឺជាអវតារមួយព្រះអង្គក្នុងចំណោមអវតារផ្សេងៗជាច្រើនអង្គទៀតរបស់ព្រះម៉ែ“ឧមា”ឬព្រះម៉ែ“បាវ៌តី” ដែលជាព្រះអគ្គមហេសីរបស់ព្រះសិវៈ ឬព្រះឥសូរ។ ព្រះម៉ែ“កាលី” ទ្រង់មានឫទ្ធានុភាពខ្លាំងក្លា កាចសហាវ និងគួរឱ្យភ័យខ្លាច, ទ្រង់មានអំណាចក្នុងការបង្ក្រាបសភាវៈអាក្រក់ទាំងពួងឱ្យវិនាសសាបសូន្យ ហើយជួយការពារឃំគ្រងអ្នកប្រព្រឹត្តល្អឱ្យជួបតែសេចក្តីសុខ ប្រាសចាកភ័យអន្តរាយ និងការតាមបៀតបៀនយាយីពីសត្រូវទាំងឡាយ។ ទោះបីជាព្រះម៉ែកាលី ទ្រង់មានភាពកាចសាហាវ ពោរពេញដោយភាពក្រេវក្រោធ និងរូបលក្ខណៈគួរឱ្យខ្លាចក៏ពិតមែន ប៉ុន្តែទ្រង់ធ្វើការបំផ្លាញចំពោះតែពួកបិសាច និងមនុស្សណាដែលប្រព្រឹត្តអាក្រក់ប៉ុណ្ណោះ, មិនថាបុគ្គលនោះជាអ្នកគោរពបូជាយ៉ាងតឹងរឹងចំពោះទ្រង់យ៉ាងណាក៏ដោយ បើសិនជាគេប្រព្រឹត្តមិនល្អ ឬមានគំនិតអាក្រក់នោះ ទ្រង់ក៏មិនលើកលែង ដូចគ្នា។
