APEC 2023: Trudeau says “positive” Biden-Xi meeting a “good sign” | FULL

- Prime Minister Justin Trudeau described Canada's relationship with China as "complex," in a comment during the 2023 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum on Friday. Trudeau also described the relationship as going through a "challenging time" but said Canada will continue to stand up to China on areas of fundamental disagreement.
Trudeau also said that the “positive meeting” between U.S. President Joe Biden and China President Xi Jinping at the summit was a “good sign,” and said that he talked with Xi on creating “constructive dialogue” between Canada and China, in addition to saying hello.
Responding to a question about Biden calling Xi a “dictator” during a Thursday APEC speech, Trudeau replied that “Listen, we can get into all sorts of different definitions. The fact is, he's not running a democracy. It's an authoritarian state.”
Lastly, in reply to a question about a protester confronting Trudeau at a Vancouver restaurant that went viral earlier in the week, Trudeau said that “it’s not about me,” but that the grief, anger and despair felt by Canadians was “bleeding over” into each other. “We are not a country where Canadians should be scared of other Canadians,” he added.

- he still doesn’t care to repair China-Canada relations and cannot move beyond the Meng Wanzhou diplomatic dispute, calling the Michaels as arbitrarily detained.
- he looks rather indignant while calling Xi and China authoritarian as if he’s still angry about his previous heated encounter with Xi
- he beats around the bush and doesn’t answer questions he doesn’t want to
- laughed at the question about whether China is a dictatorship, this is unprofessional for a head of state to do especially at an important summit like APEC
