    That is funny how people complain about Roland until they finally manage to read the manuals and the device becomes vintage.
    Recently Roland brought its ZenCore engine (along with expansion packs) to the world of entry-level arranger keyboards. That is revolutionary.

    • @ptr_new
      @ptr_new  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I’ve only ever heard people complain about things like Roland not listening to what people really want, and the subscription based vst bs… you basically never own the software…

    • @Acrimonious_Snake
      @Acrimonious_Snake 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ptr_new In fact you have 20 years of subscription with all the synths, sound packs (more than 8000 sounds) and constant updates before you hit the price tag of a flagship Fantom. I guess it is very good option... I pay for my mobile and cable internet more, seriously.

    • @Acrimonious_Snake

      @@ptr_new But Roland actually listens to good ideas. You won't believe it, but the balanced outputs on the modern Fantom and Jupiter X were my idea after I complained about the low output gain problems of my D-05 minijack output long before these synths were released. I literally asked that every serious synth needs proper balanced outputs. Believe it or not, the wonderfull (but expensive) Jupiter Xm mini keys were born out of my complaints about the fragility of the JD-Xi cheap keyboard. Wait for the Boutique V2 line with the interfaces of the corresponding legendary hardware programmers (think D-05V2 with a PG-1000 interface), this is an idea I wrote to them recently lol. Of course, jokes aside, I do not think that Roland listens to me personally, but it is enough that they over time implement what people want

    • @ptr_new

      @@Acrimonious_Snake wow that sounds good actually, at one point even I considered going for the software as they have the JV-1080 VSTi, but after hearing what it sounded like I was like “naahh” and decided just to keep my hardware JV. They really f’cked up some of the presets in the software and they sound nothing like the originals. The software is good if you’ve never heard a real JV and have no comparison…

    • @Acrimonious_Snake
      @Acrimonious_Snake 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@ptr_new I agree, I also noticed a difference between the hardware and software sound of the JV-1080 presets. Although I don't have a real JV-1080, I do have a set of factory JV-1080/2080 sounds inside my Juno DS. Using the 1080VST, I selected a number of interesting sounds, wrote down the names, and then loaded those presets into my Juno (from Roland Axial). There are all factory sounds 1080-2080 converted for Juno DS (also there are almost all of the famous Roland's expansion cards for DS and FA series for free, which is great). I agree there is something wrong with the JV-1080 VSTi, although it sounds good, but these sounds are much better on my Juno. Possibly because of modern wonderful Juno DS effects. I know that one of the most important features of the real JV-1080 was the 32KHz DAC, which produces that legendary unique sound. The VSTi sounds harsher, but hopefully Roland will add DAC emulation in future releases if we ask loud enough. Currently their JV and XV plugins are absolutely identical except that the latter has more waveforms and patches. But we all know that the overall sound character of these modules should be different, they had very different DACs.

    I missed the opportunity to purchase the V-Synth when it came out. It was too expensive for me. I really wanted the VC-1 D-50 expansion card with it. Over the years I have purchased a D-05, a Roland JD-Xi, a System-1 and a Juno DS. Each one is unique and holds a special place in my heart. Honestly, I wouldn't change them to V-Synth now.

      Thank you! :) I’m the same with my gear, I think they all have their place and applications, all just depends on what you want out of them, and then there’s certain synths that can do practically anything (with a little bit of imagination and preset tweaking) I think a perfect example of this are my presets for the Alesis Micron. I never expected a virtual-analog synth with only 3 basic waveforms (sine, triangle and square) to produce rich string textures, realistic choirs, majestic church organs, larger than life pads, even acoustic guitar-like plucked instruments…

    Thanks for the demo, Peter. Question. I still have an old Roland D-50 which I love because of the vintage sounds, especially the Persian sounds that were created for it. Can I use my D-50 card that has the sounds on this new Synth? Or does it already have all those sounds that included nice Brass, Strings, and other string-based authentic instruments? Thank you.

    • @ptr_new
      @ptr_new  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@anamraficorp.7343 well that is a good question - with the original V-Synth you can boot it as a D50 if you have the D50 card. Not sure if you can load custom D50 patches though, but maybe? I could see it being possible but you might need to convert them - or they might just work straight away - honestly never tried it myself. The V-Synth XT (rack) has the D50 card in it by default. However the GT does not have the D50 expansion built in nor does it have a slot for the card.

    Sound Quality wise, The V-synth, although offering a plethora of possibilities, doesn't come near the shimmer, presence and dynamics of a Roland JD990. Sorry. That is why I sold my V-Synth a long time ago. But that doesn't mean it is a bad synth!! In contrary. It is a beast.

      I have heard demos and was quite impressed with the JD, but I always saw it as a really good sounding rompler more than anything, I do see value in both and they’re both great, and also you can always sample JD sounds into the V-Synth, there’s multisamples in the GT like the piano I demoed here :)

      @@maccagrabme I just feel about the JD990 that because it was used by a lot of famous artists in the 90’s (because at the time it was the best you could get) it gained cult following. That’s why it’s so expensive and sought after. You don’t actually get much for that £8-900 you’d nowadays pay for one - it’s really just a rompler.
      A very good sounding rompler yes - but still just a rompler. I do think it’s a bit over-hyped and over priced.
      But romplers have their place too. They’re great for bread and butter sounds, especially live. I do however prefer synths that are more sound design tools and give you more flexibility, such as the V-Synth, or the Alesis Micron, or the Kurzweil K2661 :)
