Michelle, I would love it if you did a video on behavior management. We hear very little about classroom management with over 30 students! Would love to know more about what works for you.
It makes me so happy to see that you are willing to be flexible with your students having string/band practice. They may not realize it now, but they will thank you later! As a senior in high school who loves band, I've dealt with teachers who try to complicate band kids' life as much as possible just because they don't support the arts! I appreciate teachers who understand the importance of it!
For the seating issue I would change to being able to choose their seats. Then it becomes a privilege and you only have to move the very few that can't handle it. But the motivation to choose their own seat makes them act better in their seat
Good morning, Michelle! I just finished my 26th year, and yet watching your videos has given me a wealth of resources that have kept my students engaged and motivated. I love trying new things with them, and I wanted to thank you for years of inspiration. Keep up the positivity, girl; it's the key to longevity. My turn to share with you... a MASSAGE CHAIR! Next year I will have 33 students, so this might be the first time I will not be able to squeeze my massage chair in my classroom for lack of space... but give that one a try! They LOVE it. All they have to do is reach their AR goal for the quarter (or any goal you set) and they get 10 min a day to do their work in the massage chair. (PS - When my first one broke, my parents got together and bought me TWO more because their children loved it so. Score!) Keep up the great work!

I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed hearing you talk about “The Little House.” It was one of my favorite books when I was a child, and my own children loved it as well. My daughter, who will begin her first teaching job this year, memorized it when she was about three years old and used to recite it to herself while playing on the swing in the back yard. It’s a great idea to incorporate this lovely picture book into science and social studies lessons.
20+ years teaching...you will never find the perfect seating arrangement, however, this is how our kiddos learn. They learn how to make the best of it. They learn to work in less than perfect circumstances. It’s a life skill, my friend. Embrace the teachable moment and don’t be so hard on yourself! You do amazing things and I’m inspired by your vlogs. Keep up the good work!
when I was in school my teacher would use a ticket system. similar to the panda bucks at your old school. we would receive tickets for good deeds and such. then there would be a set of drawers ( you could use your rainbow drawers) each drawer would be marked with a ticket value and students could trade tickets for prizes. hope this helps!

Michelle, if you do not already use this website/app it is called class dojo and , when a student gets a certain amount of points there can be a treasure chest and, when you have your students walk in if they double tap there name it will take attendance for you.
Gracie Lynn I have used Class Dojo for years and even have an entire video about it on my channel! I don’t use it to take attendance though because I have to display their morning work on my board in the morning and it’s much easier to take attendance myself.

Thank you so much for your vlogs and your channel in general. I finished up my student teaching and graduated earlier this month so I begin teaching middle school in the fall. Right now I'm just trying to organize my apartment and think about what to invest in for my very first classroom. I always clean and organize at the end of the year. I like to know that I can come in and start fresh or think about what I want to do over the summer. I wish I had the storage you have!
I read The Little House back in 2003 when I was in 3rd grade. I got it from the public library but I always forgot to return it. I think I’ve read it a good 20 times. I love the illustrations.

I spent our 2 teacher days last week purging my room. It was glorious. I feel like I have nothing now, but at least it's all going to be used and it's not just taking up space. I just need to change out labels once the school year starts in August.

All through my years in school, I was the "good kid" that teachers would move naughty kids next to in hopes I would rub off on them and I hated it! Sooooo distracting
Agree I just can not stand those types of student and at my school, they are in and out with fights and stuff

I love The Little House! I use it in second grade to teach rural vs. urban communities. Thanks for sharing your closet-- it’s so clean and neat. It’s definitely time to reorganize and reset while we wrap up the school year. Where did you get the math caddy? Great video that looked like a productive week. I hope you had a restful Memorial Day!
I use the 24-drawer tool kit to store my hands-on equations materials - one drawer for each student. I have a second one I use for cuisinaire rods, again one for each student, each one is labeled with student number. Those drawers are a life saver!

I love organizing too! We had to move our rooms on teacher work day so I'm looking forward to painting and doing a new theme for my third graders. I am also in process of moving residences and down sizing. It's a great feeling to purge things, but I still do not enjoy moving.

I had four students who just couldn't find a good seat, so I ended up having to have one sit at the guided reading table, another by himself at another table, and the other two together and in just did the best I could with that arrangement. It's tough!

I love The Little House! There’s actually a cd by singer/songwriter Caroline Herring inspired by the book you may want to check out. Also, after I exhausted my seating arrangement options I created a seating chart committee made up of 4 trustworthy students. I set up the expectations and they were able to have some insight into some combination issues I may not have been aware of. It also helps them see and appreciate just how difficult seatings charts can be.

Run! Lol! Just kidding! Just know it's a lot of work for all the "time off" we get! It is a job that you will continue to work at and it is ever changing. Work hard, learn all you can, and set boundaries for yourself or it will take over your entire life! Lol!

When you said you spent 10 minutes figuring out an arguement.. that made me literally laugh out loud 😂 It takes three times as long as the arguement for them to tell you what happened and then what really happened! And I'm with you on seating arrangements! Thanks for the video 😍

NaturallyRéRé Essentially every time she participates/volunteers in a event planned by the school she receives a bead. Once she gets to a certain number of beads she will receive an incentive.😀

They have them at Burlington (used to be Coat Factory) they have all colors and sizes!
Can you comment on teaching in a school that direct the teacher to only use the “pacing guide” how would you plan a lesson plan when the pacing guide is so directed and very little room for differentiation teaching.

Do you put the iris bin labels you made on the outside of your bin or on the inside (facing forward)? Love your organization!
I put them on the outside with transparent tape and have never had one come off!
