  • After a one year of ownership I am ready to give my long term review of the CBR300R. A lovely motorcycle from Honda. Extremely reliable, starts every time without fail and has been a total pleasure to own.

I've had the cbr300RA since 2015, and I love it for almost everything. It's light, it's very easy to toss into curves, easy to ride, easy to do your own maintenance on. The only thing I'd complain about is, like you, that lack of power. I take it on the highway and at 140km/h, it's nearing the top of it's rev range and the vibration becomes very annoying. I'm looking at new bikes, but I'm keeping this in the garage. It's perfect for everyday, around town or up to some nice roads for a little spirited ride. But I want something that I can go longer than 30 minutes on the highway without having to get off to reset the buzz factor in my hands from the vibe clip ons.
My decision was all but made, until Honda threw something new into the mix. Now I have to rethink it. The new CB1000r looks great and looks like the only thing I'd really have to change is the exhaust to something less huge. I don't care about the sound, but weight and looks are kind of important.
This is a great bike and I will never understand how anyone can get bored of this bike. On curvy roads I am easily keeping up with 600cc bikes but that's more about the average unskilled supersport rider than the bike.
If you can manage it, keep the 300 too and go a little bigger than 650. Maybe the GSXS750. Not too big of an engine, manageable power, very nice looking bike, and a decent induction sound. Too many excellent options today. I'd say it will be tougher to find a bad bike than a good one.

Hey thanks for the comment. I did think about keeping this one. But ended up getting a great deal on the trade. I test drove everything and ended with a 650. Reveal coming soon :)

Nice review. I enjoyed your videos on the cbr300r. I ended up buying the same motorcycle myself. Mine is a 2015 in red. I've been enjoying it. So far I have about 260 miles on it. I'm planning to do a first impressions video sometime soon.

uwwdelta You should ride more! You’re not even past the break-in period, so you won’t have a complete sense of it’s capabilities unless you’ve been using more revs than is ideal for break-in.

Got one of these the other day for a second bike! Keep the miles off my GSX-S1000! That and so my son could ride with me, it’s his bike really I just paid for it 😂... it has 9k on it and needed a new tire and has a 2 inch scratch on the left lower fairing but other then that it’s nice! I changed oil soon as I got it home and got a tire coming for it!

I like your video. When are you going to do another? Do you still have the CBR?

What did you end up doing for your second bike? I started with a 2000 SV650, brand new. Loved it. Made it into a mid-weight touring bike, with a bikini fairing, a tail bag and a tank bag.
The bike I miss most is my '94 Ninja 250, I think. Just as you said, it would keep up with highway traffic (14k RPM redline) but did not have much left after that. I'm starting to feel like a 500-650 is the perfect size bike for one-up riding.
I also had an FJR1300 ABS and it was wonderful. It was faster than my SV650, even with my wife and luggage, but hard to stay out of trouble. It ran hot and it was heavy; the flickability of the 250 and even 650 was completely gone.

I picked up a CBR650F. Couldn't be more happier with my choice. Will be posting an update on it shortly.
