- Homily for the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year B
Theme: They Do Good... But Are Not of Our Group.
In this homily for the Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time, we reflect on the surprising ways God works through people, even outside of the faith. The readings, especially from Numbers 11:25-29 and Mark 9:38-43, 45, 47-48, remind us that the Holy Spirit is not limited by our human boundaries or groups. The story of Moses and Jesus shows us that God’s grace extends beyond what we expect. While some may not be "of our group," they can still do great good, inspired by the Spirit in ways we may not understand.
We are also reminded by James (5:1-6) that being part of the right group means nothing if our lives do not reflect Christ’s teachings. While those outside the Church can perform great acts of kindness, it is our faith that channels these acts into deeper, selfless love rooted in God.
Let this be a call to open our hearts to the unexpected ways God works in the world and to live our faith with generosity, love, and humility.
