What is meaning of "reset" and its benifit and aplication in power system protection?

Reset : its threshold value of the actuating quantity e.g. current, voltage etc. below which the relay is de-energized and returns to its normal position.
Consider a situation where relay has closed its contacts and the actuating current is still flowing. Now due to some reason, the abnormal condition is over and the current starts decreasing. At some maximum value of current the contacts will starts opening. This condition is called reset.
The maximum value of the actuating below which contacts are opened is called reset value or drop-out value.
