They are not related in any way. They were all members together of the Idol group Sakura Gakuin. That is the origin of Babymetal. If you ever fall deep enough into the Fox hole you might find yourself checking out songs from Sakura Gakuin. That will help you understand their roots, but it may also confuse you more. :)

The girls are co-workers. They wear a uniform and go to work :) They were signed by the same talent agency and ended up together. Don't let their age and cuteness fool you those girls are professionals.
Someone had the nerve to talk smack to Rob Zombie about performing with Babymetal and he told them 'Those girls work harder than 90% of the Metal Bands out there.' And that was the simple truth.

This festival was held on 5 July 2014 and was BabyMetal first major festival outside Japan. Gimme Chocolate went viral around Feb and Mar that year, with support of BabyMetal fans the organiser booked them for a smaller stage. Then online flame war ensued arguing if they are worthy to be there. The flame war grew so intense plus their sold out for The Forum, London concert tickets (7 July 2014), that the organiser bump BabyMetal to main stage by May. This is a stage where people throw bottle of piss towards bands they don't like. So when BabyMetal went on stage, they are definitely worried. After this performance, UK became their biggest market in Europe.

Just to add a little... they didn't have a good vantage point backstage, so they thought no one was there and were trying to figure out what they would do if they went out and no one was in front of them. Then they went out and saw 60K people waiting for them. Think about how much of a mindf&*k that had to be! Worried about no one to worried about 60K people who might throw beer bottles/piss bottles at them if they didn't get themselves over. From what I've heard/read, Su kind of said to herself, maybe to Yui and Moa, to kill it and win the crowd over. Five songs later, you see the result. Most of the people there understood pretty much nothing sung, but loved it to the point of begging (let's be honest, 60K people chanting can equate to begging) for more!

Like most Babymetal songs , they have a theme and this one is about bullying :- Dreaming, I can't even hold it, the gap between light and darkness It's
not just me who's hurt, I've kept staring at you
    Confidence (Hold) I can't hold it (Don't lose) I kept hiding (I can't find it) I'm
    goodbye until yesterday (Yestadi) Goodbye!
Bully (No!) Bully (No!) Cool (No! No! No! No!)
    Hurt, hurt, and get scratched
Fox (fly!) Fox (fly!) I'll definitely fly (fly! Fly!) Fly! Fly!)
I will release all my suffering and sadness and protect you
On the night when I was about to cry without showing tears, the room inside my heart wasn't the only one hurt alone
Nothing (Nothing) I can't say (Say Nothing) I almost gave up (no littering)
My goodbye until yesterday (Yestadi) (Goodbye!)
Bully (No!) Bully (No!) Cool (No! No! No! No!)
    Hurt, hurt, and get scratched
Fox (fly!) Fox (fly!) I'll definitely fly (fly! Fly!) Fly! Fly!)
I will release all my suffering and sadness and protect you
Feeling the pain, I'm always alone I don't notice I pretend I can't escape anymore
    Bullying, no good, no way
I'm so sad, sad and strong, I
don't wanna see your crying face anymore
Bullying (bad!) Bullying (bad!) Brackets bad by (bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!)
Hurt hurting Is the become full of scratches and
a fox (fly!) Fox (fly!) I'm sure can fly
nor sorrow suffering I'll release you all and protect you
Bullying, bad, Absolutely (bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!)
    Bully, bad, forever
bullying, bad, Absolutely (bad! Bad! Bad! Bad!)

Yui and Moa known each other from very young age and both joined the idol group "Sakura Gakuin" which Suzuka was already a member of since it's foundation. Babymetal was born as a sub unit of this group but got eventually so popular that they made it a seperate thing. Su, was sixteen when BabyMetal did their half hour set at Sonisphere. Imagine being that age and singing in a foreign land at a rock festival. Just amazing. Her voice is strong with out any nervousness in it. BabyMetal also sang Gimmie Chocolate and managed to get a bewildered crowd to sing along. What amazes me is the crowd size. This was a Saturday morning and they were the firs tact on stage (I believe). I always picture the scenario, you are at a weekend rock festival and your mate says, Saturday morning, we need to be up and sorted to see BabyMetal. Who are they, you ask? Well it is three teen girls wearing tutus and they dance about and sing in Japanese. How many people would have gone if they did not know the wonder of BabyMetal? Fairly confident I wouldn't of gone seeing I would be there to see the likes of Iron Maiden.

Yui and Moa first met when they were quite young, due to both doing modeling for things like _Ciao!_ girls' magazine. They were turning up at the same events a lot, and their mothers also became good friends. An excerpt from the interview in their Sakura Gakuin graduation photobook:
(Moa) Kikuchi: _When did we first meet?_
(Yui) Mizuno: _I don't know since when, Moa was always next to me._
I'm still not really sure how much Moa was a fan of the trio Karen Girl's, but Yui was definitely a big fan, and looked up to them immensely. One of Yui's family members had a long-term illness, but she was too young, and had to stay in the waiting room during visits. The hospital staff set her up with some music, so she would have something to occupy her, and this encouraged her to stay strong and positive. Su was one of the members of Karen Girl's. After Karen Girl's, Su and Ayami were both chosen to be part of the 2010 debut "class" of a new project (Sakura Gakuin), so Yui (along with Moa) auditioned for Sakura Gakuin, and were accepted to also be among the first members of the group. Just a few months later, BabyMetal is formed as the "Heavy Music Club", to be a Sakura Gakuin subunit project centered around Su, and Yui and Moa are chosen to be part of that. So, that's how it went. :)

There are songs with parts that pay homage to Metallica such as Babymetal Death and Song 4. That is obvious and intended. Metallica are fans of Babymetal and are well aware of this. As far as "ripping off" songs, there are probably millions of songs throughout history. there's a pretty good chance every single song ever made has some part that sounds like another song. BTW, Slipknot are fans as well.
