Here in USA the VC price is twice the non-vc. For me is not a big issue the way you select AF to MF. What I'm looking is a comparison in image quality, that's a big issue for me.
Tamron seem to be really stepping up their game and are becoming a serious consideration when selecting lenses. I picked up a budget 70-300 non-VC variable lens recently and even at that very low price point the standard is reasonably good. Having the reach is the biggest bonus, just no VC means you need a tripod for low light really.
Cannot wait to see your take on this Tamron vs Canon's 70-200 in terms of sharpness and focus speed/accuracy. So far so good in terms of build quality. Thanks for sharing Matt.
If truth be known, I do like the sound of Tamron's VC on both the 70 200 and the 24 70 and at that sort of price I'd be tempted but I don't see too many people in the UK getting excited about Tamron lenses unless they drop their UK prices and stop using filter sizes that cost 50% more than the ones most photographers have in their bags. Perhaps the UK market just isn't big enough - I live near a major city and none of the camera shops there stock more than one or two Tamron lenses.
I'd like to see that same comparison. I'm in the market for a 70-200 also. Looking at used Sony's. Supposedly Sony has a new 70-200 coming out soon, so used ones might get cheaper. But in my experience, Sigmas are higher quality than Tamron in general.
now I am confused between the Sigma and Tamron for my Nikon D600 that I have just purchased. I did purchase the Tamron 24-70 by watching your other comparison between all the 24-70's form Sigma, Canon, Nikon and Tamron and i love the lens, Thank you. Another of a similar comparison for the 70-200 f2.8 would be really helpful as now the Tamron also has VC and will compete well with the Nikon and the Sigma.
tamron should pay u for supporting and making apparent abt their features with other brands in not just this video, but in most of ur other videos as well... u definitely make ppl consider tamron products when it comes to gears...
Those versions have along time some issues with sharpness that was call back in service for refund or getting a new improved one. Overall is a good good lens that is sharp-less CA-fast AF-cheap compared to other lenses, but again if you get the one without any issue from the beginning
Same here in the Netherlands. There's just € 200,- gap between the Nikon and this one. I don't think that's gonna be enough to beat it on price-quality ratio..
how does the new version of 70-200 fairs against tamron 70-300 vr? I remember from your other channel you were really impressed with 70-300 performance. thank you!
Great video thanks Matt. Have watched all your videos on this lens. Just ordered the older version for my Sony a77. Don't need the VC. I'm told that on the a77 I may need to make an auto focus micro adjustment of +4.
with one of these lens will you put on your Nikon camera - Tamron 70-200mm f2.8 Di VC USD (AU $1,567.00) or Sigma’s New APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM (AUD $1,125.00)
Just curious... if all the reviews for the Tamron go well - as I expect they will, judging from those already out - it will be the one I will purchase. Prefer the extra stop of light to possibly better VR. However I dont think the moniker "Better" (nor "Better quality") can be applied to either lens so soon, no definitive info yet. Pro Tamrons? Far as I know he has the old 70-200 and 90mm macro. On a side note I have seen Pros shoot with Sigmas... but Im no Pro, nor limited to OEM lenses.
I am seriously considering buying the new one as my second lens. I use a Nikon D7000 and I only own a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 non-VC. I don't feel the need to go any wider than I already can, so I'm looking for a telephoto lens for portraits, sports and possibly macro. At first I was deciding between the Nikon 105mm f/2.8G and the Sigma 150mm f/2.8 OS, but now that I see this thing, I would probably still want it. I don't have the money, but I just needed to set a goal to achieve. :) Great video!:)
Really keen to see a comp with canon. I'm so torn this or canon f4 IS I'm not making money off photography and never will but am I crazy to even contemplate canon f2.8 just worried ill miss those few etc stops in aperture
hello, can you compare the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 OS with the Tamron 70-200 f2.8 VC. (I could find this in your videos). Those are two lenses in the same price range with similar specs and also aimed at those who won't be able to afford the nikon/canon. also how does the OS and VC compare, the focusing speeds, build quality, etc.
I had the exact same question... i saw his shootout but it was the non VC version. Im trying to decide between the tamron VC and sigma OS because i don't have the extra money for the nikon one =/
Gotta gotta gotta compare with the Sigma, US the Tamron is $300 more. I imagine prices will settle close to $200 more in a month or so but I'm really interested to see if it keeps the IQ of the first one.
could you test with tamron and nikon teleconverter. tamron seems sketchy if they work or not. big difference to save the cost on the lens, but lose the functionality of a TC.
since as you say the word Macro is used so much on lenses, how do you tell if its a TRUE Macro lense? btw great to see the new reviews, i have subscribed to both channels.
Im am very interested in this lens. However is it worth the thousand dollars to purchase this lens over the Tamron 70-300 vc? I just find it hard to justify $1000 for two stops of light? Any thoughts?
oic, thank you for the info. How do you think about the Tamron when compare to a Sigma when using a Sony body? Could't afford the Sony 70-200mm F2.8. Thanks!
Hi I own one of these lens with a canon 5d mark iii but the lens is not sharp at 2.8 - 3.5. It’s fine from f4 but again it’s not sharp at infinity. Is the motor or something else going bad or is this how the lens operate?
G'day Matt, Thanks for your feedback. I have a que regarding Tamron Vc v/s Non Vc 70-200 F2.8 model. I have sony A65 and I want to get one if this lens but I am bit confuse which one to go with. I am not a Pro in photography, I have started leaning photography. you help will really appreciate. Thanks in Advance
Io ne ho preso uno usato di Tamron 70/200 che però dove c’è il segno di innesto che deve combaciare con quello del corpo macchina,è bianco, mentre questo è rosso come mai?
Hey matt, Should I go with the Old Tamron or the New, I'm alright missing the VC and the USD, I'll be using monopods. I just want to know if the image quality changed.
You can mount it to your G7 with a Metabones Speedboster XL 0.64x. Just remember that there is a 1.5 crop factor and 1-1/3 stops increased. This is not cheap and will put you out of your budget. If you want a nice little zoom I suggest the Olympus M. Zuiko 40-150mm which gives you an effective focal range of 80-300mm. I bought mine for $105.00 USD.
Wow.. now i don't know anymore, wich to choose.... Canon f4 IS, Canon f2.8 (non IS), Sigma f2.8 EX OS HSM or this Tamron. Still thinking however to buy the Canon f4 IS because it is slightly cheaper and i think faster focus. I only scared i will miss the DOF of 2.8. Anyone has a good advise? (canons f2.8 IS mk II is too expensive for me)
hi matt, will it be very difficult to stabilise the video and still, while shooting with this Lense, ..as I heard Without tripod, shoot is very difficult, and because there is no stabilisation option in this Lense. so whats your suggestion for me, as I don't have any Lense except kit Lense, so I was planing to buy it but there is some apprehension which I want to clear with you. I need Lense which solve my portrait and landscape photography purpose.
I see why you ask. I personally think that Nikon on Nikon is better than Tamron on Nikon or Sigma on Nikon, but again the new Tamron 70-200mm f/2.8 is a amazing lens :)
I hope this new lens is just as good as Canon or Nikon, even though I already have my Canon 70/200 f2.8 L IS ll, because Tamron's 24/70 2.8 VC already put a dent in Canon and Nikons market, and if they do it with this 70/200 it could really give the big boys a kick in there high price asses, and Sigma looks like they are getting in the game also with there new 35mm 1.4 ( and there 85 1.4 is already really good, so Tamron and Sigma could force Canon and Nikon to have to compete with there prices
Just checked UK prices - at best it's around £200 less than the Nikon version and in some places it's about £50 more. If you're a 3rd party manufacturer you've got to be significantly cheaper than the brand name lens. When you consider the price of this 70-200vc and the 82mm filter on the 24-70 vc which makes the cost of filters hugely more expensive, Tamron have really shot themselves in the foot. For all their innovations they still wont get ahead in the market - just too many downsides.
Tamron AF 70 - 200 mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro Or Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4L USM Lens Please suggest which one should I buy. Both costs same here In India. Thanks
I hate this new layout, can someone tell me where i can see his most recent videos without checking out his profile. Before you could just click on top of the video... HELP...

The VC version of this lens is amazing, I use it for concert photography and I'm so happy with it.
btw: his dialect is so lovely :D
Thanks Matt, looking forward to seeing how it goes head-to-head with the Nikon.
I bought this monster as u advised and took some shots with it. This is an amazing zoom lens. I loved it...
I am interested too! Waiting for thatnikonguy review of this lens.
Hi, I have a Nikon d5500 (it's a aps-c crop sencor) what would be the pros and cons of using this lenses on my camera.
Thank you

I picked up the VC version mint for 750 Can. Now I have to sell the original one, I picked up last month.

For Sony mount without vc, will it be cheaper?
Hi, ill be using the lens in manual mode on a Sony A7s, is there a difference with image stablisation between the lenses? Thanks.
Great lens after all these years.
Why not against the Nikkor 70-200 also?
looking forward to the review! thanks

Where is the other test videos??
Please do a comparison with with Sigma! I was about to buy the Sigma but now I dont know! Thanks!
Hey matt,
Should I go with the Old Tamron or the New, I'm alright missing the VC and the USD, I'll be using monopods. I just want to know if the image quality changed.
the "new one" can have a constant F-stop at 2.8 through out the lens. Totally for different purposes.
Can use tamron 70-200 f2.8 NON VC with G7 Lumix with Canon Adapter.

Sorry for poor English.
Basically i would like to get a Zoom Lense for G7. But i don't want to go with expensive, budget is $200- $250.

BUY LENSES BY THE KILO. Great stuff.!!
I think this will be a good lens :-) I hope its fast
Tamron AF 70 - 200 mm F/2.8 Di LD (IF) Macro Or Canon EF 70-200 mm f/4L USM Lens
Please suggest which one should I buy. Both costs same here In India. Thanks
between those, get the canon.
Thanks Lex Arias
well 77 is not a normal filtersize... 200/2.8=71.4285714 so smaller is impossible!
Hello sir, is those lenses work at canon 700d?? Plz rply me!!
Yes it would work, however that is a crop sensor body so the zoom effectively becomes 112-300mm
THANK GOD FOR THIS VIDEO.
it looks like one is the macro lens
No, that's the bummer. I shoot Sony too. You think they'd be cheaper, but they're not.
#PM #PerfectMoney #PayPal #EgoPay So,Tamron is a brand selling Camera or it is another camera brand ??
