There are so many great books out there on how to become a better poet, writer, and artist generally. In this video we discuss the amazing American poet Mary Oliver's poetry craft book, A Poetry Handbook. This is the first video of a series I'm going to do about the best poetry writing books out there. If you want to improve your poems, understand poetry more deeply, or have an urgent assignment for your poetry and literature class, this may be the video for you. I highly recommend this book, seeing as it's just over 100 pages and will teach any poetry beginner many of the preliminary tools of the trade. Whether you are writing love poetry, sad poetry, funny poetry, or poetry about your dog or cat, check out this excellent writing guide.

What's your favorite piece of poetry writing advice?

Correction for point #5, I spelled "imitation" as "immitation." Please do not imitate me 😂

@@RenskevdWaal Totally agree with this. You've gotta start as a fool. Good poems take 1000s of not so good ones. Practice by writing and also by reading. I made this channel to help poets and spread the good word(s) of poetry. I'll make more videos about the necessity of being a fool in the future. The fool is curious!
