  • Classic Car Addict is excited to present this 4x4 1972 Jeep CJ-5 for sale in our Mesa, Arizona showroom. The Jeep CJ models are a series and a range of small, open-bodied off-road vehicles and compact pickup trucks, built and sold by several successive incarnations of the Jeep automobile marque from 1945 through 1986. After the CJ-5, round fenders and headlamps were nonnegotiable among Jeepers.
The 1972 model year brought significant changes to the CJ-5. American Motors began fitting their own engines, which also required changes to both body and chassis. Also in 1972, AMC's 304 cu in (5.0 L) V8 engine became available, which upgraded the power-to-weight ratio to a level comparable to a V8 muscle-car. Other drive-train changes included a new front axle - a full-floating, open-knuckle Dana 30, which was both 25 lbs. lighter and reduced the turning circle by 6 ft.
The interior needs a little love, as shown in the pictures. You could reupholster the seats, or just add seat covers. The painted steel dash is clean and presentable. It features a GT Grant black steering wheel that has a “suicide” knob. There are some auxiliary SUN gauges that were installed as well during the engine rebuild. A Craig CB transceiver is also mounted to the dash. Odometer shows 38 miles, but consignor states its more like 3830.
This is an original paint survivor painted in Butterscotch Gold, which is a rare color. It also has the very rare Arctic hard top and doors with roll up glass windows. This top is a Jeep “special equipment” option.
This Jeep has been stored for a few years. They did rebuild the 360 V8 in 2015 and put less than 5,000 on the rebuild. They installed an RV cam when they did the engine rebuild. Upgraded the HEI distributor, Edelbrock manifold, Edelbrock two-barrel carburetor and a new custom clutch. The engine runs well without excessive smoke. She rolls on BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires, 33x12.50R15LT all the way around.
We do have a few recent receipts from the seller that will be included in the sale. The Jeep will be sold on a clean Arizona title. Call Classic Car Addict today to own this awesome piece of history, 480-256-1459. And be sure to check out all of our socials, under Classic Car Addict. Looks to be the original 3 speed, not a 4 speed. The AMC 360 is not a big block. AMC engines didn't have small or big blocks, they were all one block size. Springs are YJ conversions.

Thanks. Appreciate the info. I will look into it. It is a 3 speed for sure. I wasn’t sure about the suspension. I will decode the engine again to make sure it is an AMC. Appreciate you.

@@ClassicCarAddicts It's definitely an AMC. The 304 and the 360 will look exactly alike externally. While you have it on a lift look at the side of the block next to the engine mounts. AMC V8s have the displacement embossed on the block. It will say 304 or 360 in raised letters. Pretty easy to see. For the last couple of years of production the 360's said 5.9.
