Even if it's more expensive than Gripen C/D, it's more advanced, more capable, more advantages and more users which means more support packages, spares, longer and decades of life expectancy. Also, if war erupts in the region the US government could provide more F-16s as military aid and our pilots are already familiar to operate it. You can't say the same to Sweden with their Gripens.
