  • I answer my most asked question: whether Bernedoodles make good dogs for service work. In this video I do generalize breeds so please be aware of that.

Why hello fellow Bernedoodle service dog handler. I have an F1 boy. He will be 3 soon. I chose a Bernedoodle for all the same reasons, except I am partial to the berner. My childhood dog was a berner border collie mix, smartest and most gentle natured dog there was. So as an adult looking for a smart doodle on the calmer side fell in love with a Bernedoodle. My boy Remi is 85lbs and he does light mobility work for me (I am a small human so it is easy for him). They sure are not for everyone, but I am hooked. I am thinking of making an Instagram for my boy. Just glad to see this designer dog get the recognition it deserves.

Hello!! So nice to meet another Bernedoodle service team. Moose is an F1b and will be 3 in June, so very similar to your boy! If you make an Instagram for your bernedoodle, please let me know so I can follow!

Im glad you made this video! My medical alert service dog is 12 lbs. He is absolutely amazing, but my next service dog will need to be for mobility and medical alert. I’ve heard doodles make great service dogs for some lightweight mobility!

I'm glad it was helpful! I am generalizing breeds in this video but a Bernedoodle might be a good fit (depending on your lifestyle), especially for mobility work. If you have any questions I didn't address in the video, please let me know!

I have a labradoodle service dog and she has lower energy and has a harder time training cause of her drive. She also sheds a ton like it gets all over my clothes 😂😂 I guess she is just weird 😂 new subscriber btw :)

Thanks for commenting and for subscribing!! I was definitely generalizing breeds in this video. Is she a F1?

How do you find a good breeder for them?

    • @baileerosemary
      @baileerosemary  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Always ask for proof of health (dna testing like from embark & OFA are main ones)! I would also look for programs that raise their puppies on a curriculum such as Bad Ass Breeder or Puppy Culture plus ENS/ESI. Temperament testing is a huge plus. If a breeder isn't willing to share health testing documents or just be transparent with what's going on in their program, then steer clear!!

    I have two questions:
How are they with scent training for medical alert?
And are they still driven enough to enjoy doing their tasks?
Thank you. Have a nice day

Moose did well with scent training once he got the hang of it! He was also driven enough to enjoy tasking. I think the difference is in energy. One of Moose’s tasks was medicine retrieval. When I would say “go get my meds,” he would immediately go find them and bring them to me. However, I think if I had a high drive dog do the same thing, they would *sprint* to find it and bring it to me. Moose would happily go get them but not run to do it which didn’t bother me. I hope that makes sense! There probably are high drive Bernedoodles but generally they aren’t like that

@@baileerosemary Thank you so much for your reply. This is really helpful to me and makes perfect sense. That too wouldn’t bother me so much.
Was stubbornness an issue you encountered? I’ve been warned that they can be quite stubborn and choose to ignore commands sometimes.
Thank you so much again for replying and for being so helpful

I have heard that too but didn’t really experience that too much in regards to sd work. If Moose was at home and wanted to stay outside, he would be stubborn in that way. However, when he had his vest on, he knew he was working. I would definitely recommend looking at breeders who do puppy curriculum and temperament test! That would help you get a Bernedoodle that’s good for service work.

I appreciate your video so much! I've been considering a bernedoodle for my next service dog. I lost my service dog (a lab) about a year ago very suddenly, and I haven't been emotionally ready to pursue and train another bestest boy. One of his plethora of nicknames was Moosey, and I'm taking your video as a sign that it's time to move forward. Would you be willing to share Moose's breeder? I haven't found many with a solid online presence, and it makes me hesitant to travel to wherever to check puppies out. My body doesn't appreciate travel (or anything else, really 😂). Thank you!

I got Moose from Christina at NY Bernedoodles in Buffalo, NY. I know she is having a Standard litter in the next few months and another next year!
