That's the thing about prequels. Pre-established characters often make the worst protagonists, because we all know what happens to them in the end. For it to work, there needs to be character development and emotional growth as opposed to physical stakes. Rings of Power, in my view, lacks the former and tries to rely on the latter, which doesn't work well.
Pre-established characters and knowing what happens i have NO problem with, Infact what i love to see is the charactars mirrored as perfectly to the book as possible. Seeing what you've read come to life in adaptation, word for word is nothing to scoff at. Would you not agree?
@@Snoopydoop I love a good adaptation as much as the next person, but in general, I think adaptations should stand on their own. Audiences should not be given homework in order to understand what's going on. Regarding prequels using established characters, I think it can be done well, but it's as I was trying to say in my previous comment. The story can't rely on physical stakes or lean on the question of whether the established character will survive or not. A story centred around emotional growth or character development, IMO, would work much better. A story more focused on interpersonal conflict, or where survival is debatable for any non-established characters. Just my thoughts.
You said it all. Those simpletons have transformed the wise, imortal Lady of Light into a pittiful"modern woman" who doesn't need no man, just a couple of cats. I'm curious how they will deal with the "smal" problem of Celeborn. When it comes to stupidity the sky's the limit.
Give more of Durin lol. Although the fall of this Dwarven Kingdom occurred during the reign of Durin VI if I remember with the Balrog. Durin III is correct for this era but I don't think Durin IV was around. Of course I could be wrong. But I have to say I find the Dwarf sections way more entertaining - many fantasy fans loved Dwarfs - the Bard would agree 😂
@@baldbookgeek lol thought so. I guess they are condensing everything down as there was a massive time gap between Durin III and Durin VI. But by doing that when people read about the Durin timeline it will throw them as it didn't quite happen in the way The Rings of Power is telling it. I'm all for changing and readapting events but it has to make sense. I know Purists will not execpt this as they are vastly more well read on Tolkien world than I am and such a change could effect or miss out key big moments during the reign of the other Durins.
The scenes with the Dwarves are the only thing in this generic slop that feels even slightly like Tolkien although Disa is a problem and not her skin colour, just her!
@@The_Reality_Filter I agree, as for Disa I can ignore her but she's just playing a female dwarf stereotype - the only thing that male Dwarfs fear the women lol. Maybe not in Tolkien world but the trope of not crossing a female Dwarf - something even Dwarfs fear, I've seen and heard off.
You know, if one writes in first person and the MC is an empty projection space for the reader than being "passive" = "everything happaning to her" is not really a fault, as this is how a person usually perceives him-/herself inwardly. A person perceives herself/himself to merely "react" to internal and/or external pressures. It is the 3rd person view that perceives the others as agents, not the internal 1st person one.
One of the characteristics of Lieutenant Mary Sue is that everyone likes her. One of the most memorable characteristics of this Galadriel is that she is utterly unlikable by everyone except the greatest evil power in the world.
Rings of power Galadriel is not an Mary Sue per see she is an chick fight fetish character. She exists for guys who like Sucker Punch and such movies. Its a chick fight series. Her being young, reckless, bratty, reckless and always right is part of of the fetish. If they could make her younger they would.
she should be growing into the role instead her erratic rage outbursts of a weak character is archaic and revolves as a girlboss the anger is offputting as i try to like or be neutral to this franchise they slapped together
@@kennyunderwood3602 I disagree with that statement. It’s slow because the pacing is an absolute mess but it’s not a great show. The show is not even remotely intelligent it’s happenstance clumsy and mystery box storytelling
I already know I'm probably going to get a lot of scrutiny and hatred for this comment, but I really don't have much of a problem with the way Galadriel is in the Ring of Power as other people
That’s the thing with this video. I’m trying to break down the issues that I have rather than telling people. It’s the outright truth. It’s just an opinion and if we all had the same opinion, life would be so boring.
This is not a hot headed Galadriel. This is a special J. D. Payne and Patrick McKay type Galadriel that deserves to be in the Willow show and not anything with Tolkien`s name on it. But each to their own.
well, I assume you are neither female or blonde, but there are so few blonde female great literary characters that seeing one destroyed really does affect me - speaking of "representation" ;-) , they clearly have destoyed some here ;-)
Yeah dude like Gladdy is a smoking hot wild child and she should deffo hook up with Sexy Sauron man. She'd make a totally awesome Baby Mama #TeamGladdy #SauronIzzaHotty
I don't know about you, but I'm tired of female characters having to be the penultimate warrior in every situation. I don't think the writers of ROP really know what to do with a female character that is powerful in other ways. The Elves were all about magic, and I get tired of that being reduced to video game bullshit. (Likely not a popular opinion.)
From Instagram....bravo William...it's a great take❤🎉

This is my view of it. This is not the world I grow up with. This is a very bizarre interpretation of it. Why should we be thankful for mediocrity?
