Edward Elric, also known as Ed or the Fullmetal Alchemist, is the titular protagonist of the Fullmetal Alchemist series. After losing his right arm and left leg due to a failed Human Transmutation attempt, Ed became the youngest State Alchemist in history by achieving his certification at age twelve. Three years later, Ed has become fully engrossed in his search for the legendary Philosopher's Stone, an item with which he hopes to restore his younger brother Alphonse Elric, whose whole body had been lost in the aftermath of the human transmutation.

Edward is SUCH a good character. He can def be the typical OP but he has such human motivations and emotions. I really love the way his character was built. He wasn’t some go-lucky boy helping people to help them. He was doing it for his own gain but still had a kind heart. Him ‘retiring’ was the perfect ending and so was him and Al being separated. I genuinely love this show so much and I’m glad it’s still talked abt to this day
That scene of Roy, Ed, and Al running away from Glutton is hilarious.

Even though fma 2003 is not purely canon,its still holds a special place in my heart..the ending shows that not everything ends with a perfect smile.
Honestly we should consider it to be it’s own timeline / universe
Well, now in 2023 I pretty much got tired of tragic endings. I only watch very few anime now because I always need to “cleanse” myself out of depression every series I watch and it's getting harder now because actual good wholesome, feel-good animes are now hard to come by.

It's just that like real life, it's not a *perfect* ending. Which I think is enough of a distinction for me not to consider it a tragic ending. It's not edgy.
If you want feel-good anime, "Hitori Bocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu" is one I've been watching recently.
I never got why brotherhood fans always demonize the 2003 anime
Heck brotherhood expects its viewers to watch that version first because so much of brotherhood's beginning is so rushed and it skips over characters and plot points expecting its audience to have seen the 2003 anime first

Full Metal Alchemist is just a beautiful anime and a nice classic my personal favorite part was when the Colonel ABSOLUTELY OBLITERATES Envy lmao
What's interesting about Envy is that he only refers to Ed as "Full Metal Pipsqueak" for most of the series. As he says his goodbye to Ed, that's the first and only time Envy refers to him as Edward Elric.

Losing his right arm was the price for bringing his brother's soul back in binding it to the armor.

This anime in my books is the best anime I have ever seen, it’s not like the other “magical” anime that be like “ oh magic just exist and if u yell louder or talk about freind ship u get more powerful”, no this one is backed up and and made so good. The science fiction in here is the best, and the half of the op are a masterpiece
There are only two that I can think of are a tie for me. This Anime the 2003 version and D.Gray Man 2008 version. Both have very similar concepts executed in very interesting perspectives on their own, and amazing main characters.
The show full metal alchemist is damn amazing its a 9.5 out of 10 for me
Everytime he does a The Life of, I pretty much get a whole ride of the story of the anime.

@@reversealchemist7174 Brotherhood follows the manga, the regular one has its own story. Edward worked for his powers, he had training from a teacher.

Know one thing I love about Edward / FMA in general.... well specifically 2003. no weird oversexualization of ANY character. no female lead character calling the male lead character a pervert or awkward romancey/sexually scenarios. Romance is only present in Brotherhood and not even a subplot at that. I love to see it. Not every single story needs in-your-face romance, or romance at all.
