    jian sword was design to do many of things at the same time, it can pierce like spear, it could bend like whip, it could cut like a blade, its hard to use it .

    That last move, where you point to your temple with your fingers! What's the basis for that?
    The Kung Fu sword, or jian, has the off hand forming fingers to be a metaphorical sword of it's own. That hand often moves parallel, or even opposite, of the actual sword, complimenting techniques in a complete fashion. So when you stab your metaphorical sword into your temple, that's pretty hilarious! There is no alternate way to interpret that, because it doesn't provide any function!
    However, the finger-sword idea is a common line of thought, but that doesn't mean it's fully accurate traditional thinking to the training. You don't have to view the off hand fingers as a metaphorical sword... but even then, it's still hilarious! The potential of the finger-sword metaphor theory would have fallen away if 'pointing it against your temple' existed in any jian form. There's no question that you made all of this up!
    On the topic of making the form up... you need to add more moves that use the wrist. It's not a broadsword. The sheer amount of straight-arm force-on-force techniques says a lot about your incoherence with the weapon.

    +Sanguis Dominus Against a sword? It wouldn't work. Take a look at some of those movements and imagine a spear that its deflecting instead. Looks a lot better then right? I would say its a kata designed more to teach movements against a spear rather than another sword. Especially the second deflect and cut.
    Thats something I always thought was lacking from what I've seen in European arts, is different weapon strategies.

    I'm curious: what kung fu form do you use to fight a hoard of zombies? Clearly, the cross bow is the weapon of choice, but sticking with traditional Chinese weapons, what do you use? A long sword? Bow staff? Nunchaka? Keep in mind that you have to get a clear head shot with zombies; none of this going for nuts kind of shit (they just laugh at you). Preying matnis, monkey steals the peach, etc isn't going to work. I know there's a tendency to go for the chainsaw, but the loud noise only attracts more zombies, plus you're up Shit's Creek when you run out of gas.

      Katana will never do you wrong. However I'd recommend using a bo staff with one modification. Simply shave the ends make them pointy like a double edged spike. Then add gripping in the center of the staff and you are ready. Ps make sure and carry a knife to constantly sharpen the staff every week or so.

It's not as if I'm attacked in the street I can tell a mugger "sorry i haven't done any stick and knife fighting, can we just do Gi grappling". I understand discipline first but a mix of real world stuff seems more practical.

      It's more just the sensibilities of the modern world. Martial arts has become more of a sport than a way of defense or assassination. Nearly all martial arts have roots in weaponry whether it be karate or kung fu. Though we train in it to better oneself and to keep tradition alive but it really doesn't have much of a place in today's world

    this is a passion
    to do this correctly you need to have love for martial arts you have to love the power and the peace and every step you do to learn need to excist listening your heart
    Jake Mace is a good exemple from passion
    have passion and you ll be better than you can imagine

    • @7dayspking
      @7dayspking 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Raquel Simões Martial arts = battlefield/war arts.....martial arts have nothing to do with peace....to be fair this isn't really martial arts.

    • @raquelsimoes7369
      @raquelsimoes7369 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +7dayspking you are totaly wrong
      martial arts excist not to fight but to create peace with your inimigs
      i can know that you dont do or barely know what martial arts are
      if you dont like it its ok no one have anything to do with that
      what jake mace did in this viedo its REAL martial marts
      when we say karate, we are just talking about karate
      when we say kong fu, we ae just talking about kong fu
      when we say taishi, we are just talking about taishi
      when we say fencing, we are just talking about fencing
      ...
      when we say martial arts we are talking about all of them karae, kong fu, taishi, fencing
      it all excist to make peace
      never, ever, use martial arts to rpove that your better, to show strenght or to attack someone beacuse you need to know how to defence not how you attack
      im a professional martial artist and i know what im saying, beacuse i have such a strong love for this
      if you dont, dont coment either

    • @7dayspking
      @7dayspking 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Raquel Simões You're wrong. NOTHING you mentioned there was a martial art. Those are sports arts/self defence and dancing. The term Martial arts is a European term and was used originally to refer to the battlefield and war.
      The term 'martial' meaning war or battlefield derives from the Roman god 'mars'....who is the god of war. Martial arts = arts of mars...or arts of the god of war. What you're talking about is neither martial arts not anything close to. An example of modern martial arts is what men are doing on the battlefield with rifles, with tanks and in close quarters. An example of more ancient martial arts would be historical fencing (either European, African, Asian or Middle Eastern.)
      If you practice these sports arts you are NOT a martial artist let alone a professional one. Those men who fight on the battlefield and risk their lives are professional martial artists/professional soldiers.
      I'm not trying to take away from these other arts nor to suggest one is better than the other. They all have different applications but they are not martial arts.
      Regardless the very premise and point of martial arts is to either defend one's homeland or to take land or resources from others, not exactly very nice but that is the reality of martial conflict...of war.

    I realise this is just a Kata, but I see can't see how any of this would be useful in actual combat, one on one or as part of a unit.
    I mean, generally, you're pretty much always going to have your opponent infront of you. Spinning around, facing the other direction, etc, would just leave you too open.
    I just see these stances and movements as far too vulnerable. For example, someone parrying/evading your attacks has plenty of opportunity here to counter or get in a good strike. Kneeling down, jumping, spinning, crossing your legs when you step - it all leaves you open.
    Especially holding the sword behind you. You've essentially completely shortened your threat range, your opponent now no longer has a blade to contend with to get to you. You can't parry, defend or attack, and even if they have a shorter weapon than you any half decent swordsman would be able to close the gap and get in a free, easy strike.
    I can appreciate it as an art form, and again I realise this is just a Kata, but for actual combat I'd much prefer European swordsmanship. It's not as flashy, but it works.
