Hi, Chelsi- I'm using your Hearts at Home pattern- my first log cabin attempt. I decided to make three (each one slightly different) Hearts at Home quilts- one for each of my beautiful sisters. Wow, was that a lot of fabric cutting! Im finally putting the heart center blocks together now, so grateful to start the actual sewing part, and very happy with my hearts so far. I'm glad I challenged myself to try a log cabin, and I love using your pattern. I can't wait to surprise my sisters with their quilts- whenever I manage to complete all three. I am so motivated!

Love your podcasts! So nice to see the easy relationship that you have with each other. Also refreshing to hear that even experienced quilters still struggle with some things. It’s true that we see all the imperfections in what we make even if others only see the beauty. I recently completed a project that has a lot of mistakes but was amazed how much better it looked after quilting and binding it.
Some great tips. I love the suggestion that if you are not feeling it and don’t want to finish something to pass it on to someone else. But first I need to clean my sewing room. While I have been recovering from an accident my sewing/office became a dumping ground. I have begun to be able to sew again but an feeling a bit overwhelmed by the clutter that has accumulated. I thing today will be the day I clean.
Even though this was two years ago, I watch u guys ever since u started. This one just popped up as getting into the sewing room. I do utube in my sewing room. This episode was very much needed! I have quilt creative blockage for three weeks on custom Christmas quilts! Your tips really helped me rethink this ... Thank u ladies! 😊
So inspiring, I feel I have learnt a lot, only been quilting tops of quilts over the last 12 months. Love sewing. I have a few quilt tops which aren't perfect, points cut off. A friend who has been quilting a long-time says to me you are great and sew so straight and finish off the quilt really good. Very addictive this hobby. So enjoyable too. Love your tips.

I agree with make the binding ahead. I got a quilt back from the Quilter and didn’t have the binding done, Now it seems like a chore. Another thing is make the label and put it on the back before sending it off to the Quilter. Then you’re ready to get everything finished when you get the quilt back. No angst.
I loved this podcast! Thank you for doing these as they are very helpful, although I have been quilting for 12 years. Proof that you can always learn something new! Now off to clean my studio because I am kinda stuck and I know it's because I didn't clean up after my last two projects. Things seem too chaotic to get much done!
I just now finish watching your podcast had a early morning appointment. I like the tip time need more of it. LOL I too think of Kimberly Jolly when the word is said about starch. I use starch now no matter what size of quilt and it has made a big different in my cutting and piecing. My store does not have the starch any more so ordered mine on amazon and got 12 cans. I have used all of your tutorials on seams, binding, zippers etc. Glad your and Chelsi are here to talk to us about things. Stay Safe till the next time.
Needed the reminder of enjoying the quilting journey. There are so many components to quilting, it is complex! The greats make it look like it should be easy and/or simple. Definitely not!! However, watching one's own progress is awesome. It is rewarding to look back on. The journey never stops, since there is always something more challenging to take on if you wish. Also, I agree with taking a class(es). It is surprising how much you'll learn without expecting to, or really even trying to. Virtual is nice for a sew along or tutorial, especially with covid still creating issues. Getting into a class in person is nice because you'll get your hands on different sewing machines, socialize with others working towards the same goals, and be able to ask questions/have your work critiqued. Fellow students in each of my sewing classes were really supportive of one another, but beginner classes are honestly the most fun! :)
Thank you for the comment about a quilt does not have to be perfect. I sewed My first quilt recently, and it’s not perfect, but I’am proud and think it’s beautiful. People who do not quilt do not appreciate the time and money that goes into a quilt or other sewing project for that matter. Sewing, quilting is an expensive hobby.
So many great tips! My problem with cutting everything ahead of time, is that I don’t always know what fabric I want to use for borders and binding. Well, I know what I will be doing after this video.....cleaning my sewing room!!
Question on organizing fabric specifically small precuts. When getting your fabric together for a specific pattern & the fabric requirements show you will need 3 mini charm packs & 2 charm packs for example, would you just go to your stash & count out what you needed? For larger pieces of fabric I organize by color but it would drive me insane to have to go through tiny pieces to choose & count. Is there an easy way to choose from the combined tinies or maybe just grab the color ways you want to use & count as you go? I never thought of organizing mini charm packs by color! Blew my mind! Lol! Something new every day! 😁 I do love your shows!
I just finished a project and used black sashing and hated it when I finished it. I then cut down the center of the sashing and reshashed it with white. And the black ended up framing the squares. It is beautiful.

This was a really fun podcast. Thanks for all your tips. I try to learn something new or change something up for every project. My next project is appliqué which I have never done. I keep prolonging starting it for that reason but need to get working on it since it will be a Christmas gift. But yesterday I ordered what else I needed. So no more excuses to start when it arrives! For the first time ever since I started quilting I'd bought fabric that I thought would be so beautiful. I hated it when I got done and gave it away immediately. I still love all the fabric I bought years ago and I have so much fabric. I love to go out into my storage building and look at my old fabric.
"A quilt does not have to be perfect." I use my first quilt every night and can see all the imperfections (a pinwheel where none of the points connect!), but LOVE that quilt so much! I could care less how imperfect it is. Makes me love it even more!
Love the Quilting Tips only! Great idea. I am learning to ruler quilt on my long arm and it is NOT perfection but am hoping to see my journey from the top to the bottom of the quilt and learning/progress with each block. Unless absolutely necessary, NO ripping out quilting (OMG, especially the stitching in the ditch).
My complaint is that an English teacher and her daughter could speak better English. With less of ''like'' , ''so much fun'' and ''I love'' in reference to every single ridiculous thing.
When you mentioned Holly Hill Quilts and the class you did, I always kick myself as I didn’t sign up. I live in Vancouver BC and couldn’t decide if I wanted the long drive down and now wish I had. Hopefully I may make it to another class once we get back to normal (whatever that may be lol) thanks for the tips ladies
Love to watch your podcast! Listening is great also but if given the choice I prefer to watch. The only thing negative I have to say is - I wish you had new episodes more often. At least weekly. But seriously that’s just selfish on my part, love listening and watching you ladies. I also understand all too well the homeschooling and time restrictions. My husband has multiple health issues and I’m his caregiver. In 2013 I had met a woman with 4 children and one being a baby. As things happened and she took off leaving her kids behind my husband and I took the baby and have since been able to adopt. We are mid fifties and now our youngest child is this amazing little boy who just turned 8! And I’m homeschooling him so I do understand Chelsie. lol. 💕😘
I won’t cut my borders until the end because I’m afraid my quilt will be a half inch longer than it was supposed to be because my 1/4” seam allowance was scant. Recently I decided to use the full 1/4” instead of a scant because I’m always cutting my points off and I think it’s the scant 1/4” that’s doing it although my scant was really scant. I hope that fixes the problem but you did make me feel better because you’ve had that problem too.
Awesome tips. I wish I had someone to call for help because I am the only one in my family who sews. I watch a lot of videos and get some ideas but I have problems with matching and blending colors. The color wheel is not very helpful or I am not using it right.
I am late to the party but I love watching your videos! You guys are great! I am a pretty new quilter and I know that people sort their scraps by color, but do you cut them into a particular size, because I hear some people say cut them into sizes and sort that way. This has left me with a bunch of scraps not sorted by either.........just scraps everywhere! Thanks and I look forward to video Mondays!
