RIP sweet Sister Wendy💝 I remember those art programs very well. She gave a keen insight into the mind of the artist as no one else could.

Yes, this I think is the byproduct of deep meditation. She could enter the heart of the painter- even Pollock, and understood paintings as the prayers of an imperfect human

She explains too much the subject matter of the imagery and nothing of the artists technique and methods, which is where the actual genius of these painters really lies. The point is not that Bellini painted a bird, it is how he painted the bird.

You're looking at it from an artists point of view, where as for the admirer of the work of the artist, it is more about the painting itself and what it is and what it represents that matters, they don't need to know the artists techniques or how they came to paint it, what we seek is the in the imagery and the portrayal the artist had in mind when they painted it. Art history is a very different subject from the artistry itself and the student of art learning such techniques, such as how the artist actually came to paint the details of the painting on the canvas. Art appreciation is in the eye of the beholder, the admirer of the artists work.

I've had the subtitles on. In this age of modern technology is it not possible for the makers of this video to avoid the the unintentionally hilarious cock-ups? "Georgie only" for instance instead of Giorgione. This is not a live TV news broadcast where the subtitlers have to do the job as it goes out. The subtitlers have had every opportunity to see Sister Wendy's script and get it right. Laughable, and an insult to their viewers,

A yt vid from 2010, on a channel that only to 3k subs isn't gonna have the option for someone to edit the subtitles for them. That's what is it btw, someone has to create the subtitles which means they have to listen carefully and maybe even put in things requested by the content maker. Then there's default captions which is just yt listening ( not a person) and putting down the words it sounds like. Sister Wendy has an accent which doesn't help as well. Notice a lot of vids before 2013 has these default settings except channels with subs 100k and up. This channel didn't even have 3k 10 years ago, so try to understand that this is why.

Wendy knows very little more than any student yet gets a show…she claims Giorgione painted a real mystery unlike anyone? Try Hieronymus Bosch. And North Euro painting leaves Venetian painting in the dust…DUTCH AND GERMANS were far better, except for Da Vinci.

Robert Giles My favorite - luv the Dutch masters and northern european art, partic in that time period - they gave us oil on canvas, which, in my opinion, was a stunning & game-changing addition to the world of art.

you're totally right, but like... chill out lol. her education probably had a heavy Italian bias, and it's also possible that she knows about N Renaissance but is sensationalizing Giorgione because he's the focus of this segment? and like my art history professor says,, you can pass your own value judgments when you're literally *interpreting* shit. I do appreciate your passion and perspective, I'm watching this in preparation for an art history exam and it's good to keep a broad scope of art at the time in mind.

Well hey, you too can get a show… prepare by doing much better research… but will you get as many viewers as sr Wendy 😂? Probably not. It’s not just a question of facts. She has a charisma of character combined with a lifelong love of art.

@@gabrielgarza8283 But I don't want a "show" on PBS where I have to explain to the Yokels what art is. I live in a country that isn't really fond of art. But you really need to spend more time on working out La Maya de Goya than worrying about me. Needs a LOT of work there Gabby.

@@robertgiles9124 but you can make your own show on TH-cam. Stop with the excuses. If you’re better than sister Wendy go ahead: no one is stopping you.
