    I noticed that Windows 2000 is the only regular OS to show in startup screen which part of system loading is complete.

      Also, Windows XP was backwards-compatible with more Win9x games and applications than Windows 2000 was.

    Windows XP holds far more features, but I'd personally run Windows 2000 on a Pentium 4 and older, especially if the PC has less than 1gb of ram. At this point, the hardware is likely limited and cannot run a bunch of modern features many programs require. So, Windows 2000 is simply more optimized. But, if I had a Pentium M laptop, I'd personally choose Windows XP. Windows XP is perfect for PCs with 1gb of ram, has TTS, epub and modern PDF readers, a far larger library of useful software, more peripheral hardware access, and bluetooth 4.0, where Windows 2000 only has Bluetooth 3.0 (devices are harder to find).

    Last I knew, XP actually WAS 2000 - just with the added multimedia capabilities of ME. It was after SP1 for both, that they separated paths and went different directions. (2K a business workstation, XP more universal - and more enhanced.)

      Yeah, when it comes to backwards-compatibility with Win9x games and applications, Windows XP is the clear winner. Despite all that, I will always have a soft spot in my heart for Windows 2000, because it was my very first introduction to “3D Pinball for Windows: Space Cadet.” I didn’t know back then that it was actually a limited version of the Space Cadet pinball table that was included in "Full Tilt! Pinball."

      Windows 2000 was a kind of a "stable beta" for what would eventually become Windows XP. It told driver manufacturers to start working on drivers for NT, because NT is the future. It's also the reason why Windows 7 was well received and Windows Vista was a bad experience to the majority, (Vista drivers work on Windows 7 as well) but a little different.

    It's disappointing really the way Windows 2000 was gimped to not be able to run things after XP launched when they are practically identical from an OS standpoint (NT5 vs NT 5.1) but the apps would run on XP just fine. It's almost like they left 2000 to die off on purpose for the promotion of XP. You can have a passable internet browser with XP which is something you can't have with 2000 (Hacks and patches aside) but if you have to extend kernals you might as well beusing XP anyway, also you can still get AV support for XP but not really for 2000 anymore. It's no good for the modern web. I've always prefered the classic look for getting things done rather than the eye candy gimmickery.

    • @eggrobo
      @eggrobo ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Remember that classic theme still exists in Windows XP. (Although you wouldn't get the exact look of Windows 2000.)

      Windows 2000 was actually a Server OS like modern Windows Server, but with a special edition called Professional that was shadowed by XP Professional.
      Windows 2000 would still be useful for servers until Windows Server 2003

    • @kevinharrison4909
      @kevinharrison4909 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What stymied windows 2000 was no built in firewall, restrictions on the use of wpa2 without additional software, non existent support for ahci to use modern sata drives and artificial software handicaps restricting the use of software than ran on xp not 2000 (they both supported. Dx9). No native support for more than 2 processors without hacks and also being limited to 32-bit which handicaps the memory. Tied to this is dropped web browser support without kernal hacks and antivirus software ending support. I think XP is the lowes standard you can go to these days given these insurmountable handicaps although I'd prefer 2000 over XP.. The system requirements for 2000 were however lower to accomplish more or less the same tasks. .

  • @Wulfdane

    The problem with the question, as you can see it with many of the responses, a lot of people are ignorant when it comes to the purpose of each OS.
    Windows 2000 was designed for businesses, not for consumers (though some preferred it). For that use, Windows 2000 was superior for running servers and datacenters.
    Windows XP was designed for consumers and its features reflected that. It was superior in that role for things like gaming or dear old Granny browsing the web on a pretty desktop.
    Ever since Windows NT 3.1 and Windows 3.1/3.11, Microsoft made to two versions of Windows - one for consumers and one for businesses.

But MS is just lazy to create drivers for it. USB 2 came out in 2000 same year as Win2K's release Date. It took up 2 years before USB 2 support come. It come in 2002 where Windows XP SP1 came out.
      The Latest release for Windows 2000 came out in 2003 which is Windows 2000 SP4
      The Latest Release for Windows xp came out in 2008. 5 years gap. Which is Windows xp SP3
