When a skilled guitarist adds vibrato, they bend the string. The tremolo arm is either used for effect or by musicians that lack the skill to bend the string to create expressive vibrato. Here's the crucial part. The tremolo arm and mod wheel on keyboards bend the pitch up and down either side of the target note. Authentic expressive string bend vibrato can only up and down above the target note. You cannot go below the note, even when pulling string either side of its central position. This effect has a unique sound that guitarists use to apply subtle emotion. Keyboards emulating lead guitar will always fail until they sort this easy problem.
