As soon as I heard about the derailment, I thought about you both. My condolences to the families of the victims and prayers to all that were injured. I’m glad you guys are safe. As soon as I heard which train it was, I was concerned because I’m scheduled to take the same train and route next month.
I also immediately thought of Rob and Allie! My condolences to families of those who lost their lives and grateful Rob and Allie weren't on this train. Safe journeys!
Thank you!
@@GroundedLifeTravel Wow were you on the one that derailed? In any case, so glad you are safe.
So glad you were not on the derailment train in Missouri. The local news channel was interviewing someone that was on the train over the phone and his name was Rob and my heart sank, I forgot your husband's name, glad to see you guys are okay love your Channel
I was worried about them as well.
Thank you!

I just got back from my first trip on Amtrack overall my experience was very unpleasant the staff did not keep the areas clean, let alone the bathrooms I spent many hours in the bay window and on the tables and had to clean myself with bleach wipes to make me feel a little more comfortable, since they had no intention of cleaning, there were also enough staff to be aware of this unhygienic situation, lastly to mention that we had a 5 hour delay.
I have no plans to travel by train solely because of the lack of attention to hygiene.🙁
I was worried as well!
The most surprising thing to me was when I was on the Sunset this summer I noticed that the bathrooms were better than when I was on the Coast Starlight so I asked my attendant about the difference and her response was basically that she had no idea and that they should all be the same. So you guys are better informed than the actual Amtrak attendants, nice job. My experience between a Superliner 2 and a Superliner 1 was that I very much preferred the 1, it felt more outdated but the 2 bathrooms are TINY. Unfortunately the car I was in when I had the Superliner 1 had really bad A/C ventilation but I think it was specific to just that car (like closing the door to sleep at night was kind of a problem, it got very stuffy in there). Overall, I really think Amtrak needs new Superliner cars, period though because even though the 1 bathrooms were better because of size, they are still old and outdated.
HI guys, we travel on Amtrak all the time, for short runs (just one day) we always go with the business class seats. For over night, we use the family room (just for 2 of us), we like the extra room which works for us. We both sleep on the lower bed because neither one of us like the top, there's just not enough head room. The longest trip we have taken on Amtrak is 4 days. We have the Amtrak rewards card and we charge everything on it (to build points) and pay it off each month. We have enough points that we travel for free. We have never paid for a room because of the points. We even used Amtrak points to stay at 5 star hotels. We both love to ride the train and it's a great way to kick back and smell the roses! I love your videos and have seen all of them posted on TH-cam. Love you travels and would love to someday to do the same. Please keep the videos coming, thank you!
Add me to the ones who were sitting here with my heart sinking when I heardthe news of the derailment. So very glad to see you on the channel. Have a great day.
Thank you
I've learned to phone Amtrak & ask for specific rooms when booking 11 months in advance. I've also learned to avoid Bedroom A which is configured differently with the bathroom facing the door-the room is smaller. I thought Superliners had 5 Deluxe Bedrooms. Maybe things have changed since the pandemic. Extremely informative video for those who've never been in Amtrak's Superliners.
Superliner I Sleeper cars did not have restrooms on the 2nd level at first. They added this restroom later & plated over a window which once was dead space. I think with Superliner II's, they configured the 2nd floor bathroom during its construction leaving a smaller 1/2 window which is visible midcar at the fl. windowline of the car. The Transitional Sleeper cars have a smaller window at one end of each car. I've learned to see the difference by train watching & riding.
Recommendation about taking a shower, I check the schedule and look for stops over 5 minutes and go before the stop to brush my teeth and then take the shower while the train is stopped.
Great idea
Always go take a shower if it's a crew change because the train stopped 👍
I second that, when I heard about the derailment and that it was the Southwest Chief, all I could think about was I hoped you guys weren't on it. Especially since the were fatalities. God keep you safe on your future adventures.
might want to carefully proof-read what you wrote ... jeez!!
Donald you should read what you wrote and probably re write it
Dually noted thank you
I was on the Southwest Chief LA to Chicago one week before the derailment - I really hope my amazing car attendant wasn't hurt. So crazy.
I took a trip from Washington DC to San Fransisco. The cheapest option was for a family bedroom from DC to Chicago and a roomette from Chicago to Emeryville/ San Fransisco. I enjoyed the spaciousness of the family room, the size of the bed, and having windows on both sides. I found it to be a bit noisy and the location of the single outlet difficult (too high up). I was actually glad I had a roomette for the longer leg of the trip. It was very quiet and as you mentioned, being on the upper level was great for that particular trip with the amazing views. Thanks for your videos - they are very helpful.
Thanks! We really had a similar experience to you!
I feel like I’m watching Cookie and Gerry Fleck from Best in Show. Love it!
Your channel is my favorite of all time!! I have not been on a train since I was very, very young back home in Spain and Germany and I am now 60.
Thanks so much!
Beijinhos para os dois adoro os vossos programas
Thanks for explaining why our bedroom turned out to be cheaper than a roomette on our last trip! It looked like a mistake and I expected the price to change by the time I checked out but it was the real deal. Woo-hoo!
That is a great deal you got then!
Allie I love your necklace ❤️ rob’s a lucky guy. Cheers.😊
Thanks
@@GroundedLifeTravel it’s all good.
Thank you for all your wonderful videos that I have been following since mid 2019. I just completed my bucket list trip on the California Zephyr on June 19th. WOW. We are in our 70's and my poor husband had to climb into the top bunk. But our room was large enough to serve Martinis at 5pm to the friends who traveled with us (yes we brought a cocktail shaker). The bathroom in Cabin A was interesting, had to sit to take a shower. The staff was nice, the food was good and we were even able to get the infamous flourless chocolate cake. We had a ball. The views are so incredible. My friend and I were playing mah jong in the observation car and kept losing our train of thought because we were staring out the windows and taking photos (whose turn is it, what hand am I playing??). My condolences to the people who died in the recent accident. But I cannot wait for my next rail trip. I am planning a trip on the Indian Pacific from Perth to Sydney this winter, and thinking about Anchorage to Denali...........hmmm. Again, many thanks.
So glad you had a great trip! The Denali one is spectacular too! If you go to Perth we'd love to hear about it, people say it is great!

Happy New Year to Allie, Rob, and all people on this site. I hope all of you will have a prosperous, healthy 2023!!!
Love, love, love, you guys and the wonderful Amtrak rooms videos you put out! Thank you so much your information is extremely valuable. God bless!👍🇺🇸🙏🏻
Thanks!
I was freezing last time we took a roomette glad to hear they adjusted the vent.
Your videos are always so informative, and rally break down what can be a complex topic into very understandable and accessible content.
I appreciate that! Thanks so much! Good to hear from you!
Thinking about taking overnight trips on Amtrak - you guys are inspiring. Thanks for all of the practical info!
Our pleasure!
We just got back from our first Amtrak trip to the Grand Canyon. We booked a vacation package through Amtrak which we think is the way to go. Thanks to your videos we were well prepared for the trip. It being our first train trip we were still unsure how it would go but the crew was fantastic.
Imagine our feelings when we heard about the derailment! WOW! Amtrak came through with a plan to deal with the delays and getting us home. They seem to be dealing with the fallout from the derailed train admirably.
Glad you had a great trip!
I like you two. always helpful and informative you make riding the trains a blast, thanks.
Thanks!
Great information. Thank you
Your videos are very informative. Thank you guys for doing what you do.

Please be careful out there. I happened to be on the Southwest Chief literally two days before the derailment (my stop was Kansas City eastbound). Just donated to the GoFundMe for two of the deceased 🙏🙏
Is the Gofund me sitll active or not anymore. If active can you please post a link here, just in case if I can get money I can donate it.
good, informative video on the types of accommodation available

Thinking about taking a trip on Amtrak. Took one many years ago…but not in a sleeper. Thank you for the info!
I am not a train person but I love watching your videos and passion for train traveling. Safe travels.
Awesome! Thank you!
Great video! Well done, thank you.
Thank you!
Very good information. Want to add my two cents. My wife and I use the auto train to visit family up north,we live in Tampa Florida. To begin there is nothing wrong with coach looks comfortable but I’m sure you would agree ,don’t know if there will be babies crying or any noisy people. Now the roomett we tried and was comfortable and private but have to walk down hall to bathroom. This upcoming trip we got a room with bathroom. We. Want to be fresh when we get to VA as still have to drive to Philadelphia. Why Auto train, I like having my own car and I can pack what ever we might need.
Thanks for sharing!
Hi you guys I was thinking about the both of you, I was hoping that you wasn't on the derailed train, glad ya'll is ok.
Thank you
great train video
Thank you very much!
I love your posts! I would like to go cross country from New York to the pacific, and possibly a different route back. I will be traveling alone. Would a roomette be a good choice? Which car and floor and location would be best? Suggestions , please?❤
I love your show. I booked my time train ride on the Texas Eagle FROM LA TO DALLAS had a sleeper w/ toilet &shower. I found the room needed more cleaning, food was Serviced hot and was very good. Room very very very cold. Toilet did not work on my trip. I'm waiting to hear from Amtrak about my concerns. Your travels can be helpful but I'm not sure I'll do the train again. I'll keep watching your travels I enjoy the information.
Thank ypu both!!😊😊
Your videos have been great and very helpful. Planning our first overnight rail trip and all the tips and experiences you've shared are appreciated. After seeing this segment, we are considering changing from an accessible room to a family bedroom; the en suite bathroom might not be as important as the sleeping arrangements. Thanks to Rob and his tape measure!!!!! Two questions: do you have preferences for sleeping with the direction of travel (your favorite - roomettes, and bedrooms) vs perpendicular to travel ( accessible and part of family bedroom)? Something I noted is that some of the roomettes show you storing some smaller luggage items beneath the seats, but when folded down into the bed it looks like that would impede (warm) air flow - it looks like there are heat grates along the floor - true or not? Finally, is there a microwave anywhere? I use my rice bag a lot, and I'm sure I'll have some achy places with the accommodations; I imagine the cafe car folks might be willing to nuke it when things aren't busy, but is there one available for public use? Finally, how's the coffee?? Many thanks!!!
We don't really have a preference on direction, it is fine for us both ways. There is heat down there, but we haven't noticed a lack of heat with bags there. Also there is no microwave for public use.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Grazi!! We are soooo enjoying - and noting! - all the tips, suggestions, and info!!
I think you mentioned, but most people would be startled that you pay and book) by the segment, and segments include any time you have to get off. For instance, travelling from St. Paul to Pittsburgh requires a train change in Chicago. So 2 segments for a one way trip. The cheapest coach seat is about $100 per segment. $100*4 segments would be $400 for round trip. The same trip by air costs about $500 round trip for business class. The train is scheduled at about 18 hours one way, and a plane is about 3 hours.
I am so glad I found this channel & have been binge watching content all day.
Question… I have only ever done one overnight train trip back in 2008 from Chicago to DC.
I loved the trip but the one issue I had was I was surprised at how much the train swayed back & forth. I had an entire family room at the end of one of the cars all to myself.
I’m thinking about giving this kind of travel another shot, this time going from Chi to LA.
My question is any tips (other than maybe taking Dramamine) that will help with the motion sickness. I remember it took a good 24 hours for me to recover last time so just thought I’d ask any tips. I am also hoping of wondering if the tracks west of Chicago to LA are maybe a smoother ride than the Chicago/DC route?
Thanks again for this GREAT & informative content. I’ll be on the website after I stop binging!!! 😃
Hello! Thank you for this excellent video. I am planning a trip from Tucson to LA and from LA to San Fran. My concern is the air filtration in the bedrooms. Please share any info about it. For example, is the air from all the bedrooms combined before it is filtered and returned to the bedrooms? Is outside air mixed in with the inside air before it is filtered and returned to the bedrooms? My main concern is the Coronavirus. So, I plan to bring a portable air cleaner. Thank you!
I am going to repost comments I replied to others, as they are helpful to any traveler.
Amtrak owns very little of their routes trackage, meaning the other companies traffic gets the right of way, and causes notorious delays in Amtraks arrival, most often some delays can be absorbed by the schedule, but many, you will be flat out late. If you have a transfer to another train or mode of transportation, hotel reservation, etc. keep this in mind, you may be held up waiting for a missed connection, and a open seat, this could vary from a train running every other day at worse case scenario if it has extra seats, [not counting rooms], so extra hotel money needs to be in the budget unless you're camping out in the stations waiting room.
Next, if something rattling bothers you, a roll of blue painters tape is sufficient to stop most of it without damage, if not strong enough and you have to result to something stronger, Dollar Tree sells small rolls of duct tape, it's not too strong but it's stronger than blue tape. The tape has more uses when traveling besides on the train, door peepholes in hotels may be installed backwards, (un)intentionally so, a peeping tom could see in, tape it over. Next, that blinking smoke detector light or another light , disturbing you from trying to fall asleep, cover just the bulb too.
As the video shows power outlets may be in strange places, or there's not enough for your needs, bring a extension cord, not the kind that's $2 or less, you want one as thick as your next item, a power strip. A power block with multiple USB ports may not be sufficient, I tried charging my phone, on a dual plug in the car as a GPS was also plugged into, it had to be one or the other, both couldn't work at the same time.
Lastly accommodations on Amtrak do not lock when you leave your room, your belongings are unprotected. The only time (if it's working) you can lock a door, is if you are in the room, and a bathroom or shower.
I would also suggest a full size backpack, you never know what you'll want to take with you separately one day, or need to rearrange what's in your luggage because of purchases and run out of room, a empty one in your luggage usually takes up a small amount of room, sometimes less than a pair of jeans.
We have booked an Amtrak trip from Jacksonville to Portland Or. to San Francisco to Chicago back to Jacksonville. All Family Bedrooms and 2 roomettes. How can I tell if the Car is a viewliner or superliner and if the bedrooms/roomettes are upstairs or downstairs???
Nice video
Thanks!
Thankyou both again for this informative video.
I like the maps of the Amtrak routes and how to get the discounts.
And the finite details of the bed size helps...
My hubhub is 5 ft 10 so he can sleep in the upper bunk..
Im shy of 5feet and use a walker as needed...
Is there a handicap roomette?
There is not, only an accessible bedroom
@@GroundedLifeTravel ty 4 info
I appreciate you showing all the room options, is there any option for handicap accessible showers?
There is a grab bar in the public shower... But there isn't much space for a wheelchair in the public shower as the Superliner accessible room does NOT have a shower, just a toilet. It is adjacent to the downstairs bathroom and shower though. My father just did a sponge bath in the accessible room from the sink... Viewliners are another story though, as its accessible bathroom does have a shower and grab bars...
Ps.i am so glad you were not on the Missouri derailment...
I hope Amtrak will have a better way to keep people from being on the tracks.🙏
Maybe Amtrak should put lasers on their locomotives and blast anything on the tracks....
Hey guys came accross your channel when Googling over night trains with beds from San Diego (Home) lol my sister said she's always wanted to do this and I never even knew it existed. Since her bday is next month I wanted to surprise her. I love your videos btw and I had a question..why not just take a plane? Is it cheaper or do you just enjoy the longer scenic route? Just curious. My sister didn't give a legit reason so I wanted to know why others decide to take this method of travel instead of just getting on a plane. Safe travels! 🚄🧳
I have only stayed in a roomette. I have also only traveled in superliner. Nice accommodations. Do you think the bedroom is worth the $$$ if you are traveling alone. Also any suggestions on sleeping with the whistle blowing all night especially on the capital limited
Not worth double the price of a roomette. The roomette is large enough for one, even for two but two is a squeeze.
Probably not, Allie uses Bose Sleeps Buds II, and she says she never hears it at all.
I rode the Capitol Limited last November round trip from Chicago to DC. Because I traveled solo, I didn't want to have all sounds blocked out. If possible, take a nap on the day before or after the trip. The whistle blowing happens quite often during the day and through the evening, but it's a beautiful route. Great views.
I would strongly recommend a family bedroom if you can get it as a solo traveller. At the time I booked, it was only $100 more than the roomette on the eastbound California Zephyr, but with more than 2x the room and windows on both sides.
@@alhollywood6486 Agreed! Once on a solo trip, I got the family bedroom for less than a roomette! It's on the lower level, but I loved the proximity to the shower and restrooms. Also loved having a solid door in addition to the extra room and the two windows.
Also there are at least two instances of the same train number for all long distance trains. Coast starlight has the trains that left today and the ones that left yesterday still in progress
What are some perks of a sleeper car
We got on an Amtrak train from Altoona, PA which we did coach cause we was going to Savannah, Georgia to pick up our son car was at Fort Stewart and they had a problem coming out of New York which we went from Altoona to Philadelphia and it was a complete mess cause originally we was exposed to arrive in Savannah Georgia at 6 am and we didn't get to Savannah till 1 pm!!! What a nightmare 😒😳
I tell everyone when planning for a long trip journey, plan to reach your destination at least a day early. I have had trains and flights cancelled. With flights there is usually another flight that day, but not always. With trains there isn't another train until tomorrow... Notice that during this July 4th holiday some of the airlines are cancelling nearly a third of their flights... If you expected Amtrak to be on time, you must not have done much research. Greyhound isn't better, and the airlines can not be trusted either although they are on time better...
Meant both of you💕🌞
You two are so informative. Your videos are great thank you. Do you work for Amtrak? I just booked the car train Virginia to Florida return for January. Got a roommate. 🎈🇺🇸🎈
I may have missed this during your presentation so sorry if you covered it. Im wondering if there are bedrooms on the upper and lower level of the super liners.
The bedrooms are only on the upper level, the roomettes are on both
Thank you for the review of the accessible room. What about showering if you have mobility needs?
The public shower is nearby the accessible room, but it isn't large enough for a wheelchair. It does have grab bars though if you have some mobility. My father just did a sponge bath in the Superliner accessible room from the sink... You only have a minute of water with each push of the button, thus sponging soap on and rinsing off wasn't a big deal... The Viewliner accessible room is another story, there is a shower in its accessible bathroom...
Do the windows open in any of the sleeper cars? Which has the best cold air?
No windows open on Amtrak
Hello👋🏽 I’m new to ur channel, I’m not even sure of ur name, is it Ally, I know ur hubby is Rob and I love you guys. I’m getting ready to take a short trip to CT. I haven’t taken Amtrak in many years and stumbled across ur channel. I don’t need a sleeper car but just curious. I’m thinking of a longer trip for next year and wondered if you can also sit in coach during the day if u have a sleeper. I know the observation car is open to everyone.
Why would you desire to sit in coach? The roomette seats are much more comfortable... Having said that, if you desire to sit in coach and a seat is available I don't see a conductor saying no...
@@ronclark9724 Was just curious. Just in case ur feeling too isolated in ur cozy quarters and wanted to be amongst the living LOL 😆. But I guess that’s what the observatory is for.
Thanks so much! We appreciate it! Yes, the observation car is a better choice, better view and you can get a table.
Hello…is there anyway of knowing what side of the car a reserved Roomette will be on?…your channel is on totally on the rails…Ty
Right now in April 20 2023 Silver Star on the east coast has traditional dinning, maybe the other east routes will have it already too or real soon in not yet.
I forgot to mention that we also have AAA.
$500-600 for both of you in a roomette? Wow I just booked 10 months in advance, senior fare, one person, on EB and had to pay around $1000 each way!!!
We've noticed prices have gone up a little this summer. It is still mostly dependent on the dates you pick though.
@@GroundedLifeTravel Thanks. I intentionally picked March and April, which I thought would be less expensive. But oh well I will still have fun. :)
@@GroundedLifeTravel It worked out. There was one day I could have booked a lot cheaper... but i found out had I booked then I would have missed seeing a special friend in Seattle 😁
I hope this is not a dumb question but what do you do for exercise. Since you sit all of the time.
You have to get out at the bigger stops and walk around
So I booked my roomette on the Zephyr in June for a September trip and it cost $1200 or more round trip. How do you get those lower prices? It is still worth it to me. Just for your information I originally booked coach all the way from Olympia to Denver and round trip was less than $500. If I was younger......
We got some discounts sent to us through e-mail when we signed up on the web site and a military veteran discount. Call Amtrak and find out what you need to do. You will be on hold for a while but they are very helpful.
They book six months in advance, not three months. Furthermore, even traveling on a with just a day's difference can significantly change the fare price. Middle of the week is usually cheaper than weekends. Before finalizing your booking check out nearby days. Being flexible gets the rewards, not being flexible and booking for a Saturday or Sunday journey is more expensive...
The prices we were mentioning were one way, so you aren't that far off. But I think we paid a total of $2,000 for 7 one way roomettes for May. Booking early, using companion coupons that you get from the Guest Rewards and points for a few of the rooms is how we did it.
Thank you guys for these videos, I am planning a trip on Amtrak, which I've never done. Do they require proof of vaccines???
Maybe bring a room thermometer to test how much the temperature dial changes the room temperature.
That would be interesting! Good idea
If you've checked your luggage, how do you access it en route?
You cannot access until you get to your destination
@@GroundedLifeTravel Thanks. I find this confusing, if travelling by train for several days nonstop. Sounds a bit, um, well, unclean.
The luggage you need put in in the sleeper car on the bottom floor and small bags can fit in your bedroom or roommate. The baggage you do not need is called checked baggage and you have no access to that till you get of the train to pick up the checked baggage before going to a hotel, airn b,, a friends house, or family house.
I have roomette 24 booked on the zephyr, is that upper or lower?
I don't think there is a 24, did you mean 2? The single digit numbers are upper, but they don't go up to 20.
@@GroundedLifeTravel no, my ticket is for car 640, room 024. I'm not finding it though.
I have roomette 23 on the Zephyr car 640.
It is in the transition trans dorm sleeper car It has all roomettes and they are all on the upper.
24 is next to the stairs to the lower. 23 is across from the stairs.
@@markw3328 thanks, I was worrying about it
I am disabled in a wheelchair and the accessible bedrooms are very hard to get. It is why I will probably never get to travel by train anymore. I am stuck with airplanes or van.
They are really hard to get and full on almost every ride we've been on.
Have any of you ever come across any kind of media that focuses on Train, Airplane and Cruise staff in one room and they compare the differences in the customer base? Didn't you do a video of the two of you on a cruise ship?
Yes, we have a separate channel for them
Do you need to have two people to book a bedroom? Can I book a bedroom for solo travel?
of course
@@davidjackson7281 For twice the price...
Yes you can
@@ronclark9724 well, not exactly, the roomette for example is a added price on top of a ticket, so if two people are booked for one on the same trip, it's billed once, for example non-roomette fare $500 per person for the trip, plus $800 for the room, total $1800, subtract one person, it's $500 less.
So if its 1000 for a bedroom is it 2000 for 2 people?
Also my cousin Maureen was needing info on what is Required to travel from Canada to the USA
Oh also do we need to be fully covid vaccinated ?
Thanks for all the great vids. I've been contemplating a cross country trip via Amtrak, but the whole multiple days on a train without being able to get off thing makes me hesitant. How do you all coordinate multiple stops in multiple cities without having to lug around a bunch of luggage?
We just got used to moving our luggage a lot! We paired it down so it wasn't as heavy and it got better.
Be very aware that people booking rooms well in advance are being downgraded to Coach with little notice. I personally was downgraded just yesterday from Business Class to Coach. Not a good day, not a good ride unless you like noise. 😕
Hello, my family of 5 islooking to go to the Grand Canyon in October, 2023 for our 20th wedding anniversary, but when I called to get a price, it was over $7700 for a round trip for 1 bedroom and 1 roomette. Is this a normal price?
Seems pretty high to us
Which Amtrak takes you to Florida can you tell me in this video
From where? I know they have Silver in the name - I was looking at the Silver Meteor NYC to Tampa, but there's another one that starts with Silver.
Amtrak's AutoTrain runs between Orlando & Lorton VA. It's an overnight Superliner train that sells tickets only for people with cars or motorcycles. The Silver Meteor & Silver Star offers service between NY & Miami-each taking different routes when in Florida.
If you want to take your car with you, check out the Auto train which starts in Lorton, VA. My brother-in-law and his wife do that in January when renting a condo in Englewood FL. every winter.
@@theghostrainbow1864 The two Silver trains are the Meteor and the Star. One serves Tampa the other does not. One runs east and one runs west of the other through the Carolinas, think Columbia or Charlestown... ...
Auto Train, Silver Star, and Silver Meteor!

you showed electrical with your favorite device plugged in. so I can not see it grr. so behind it there is what? is an outlet a single receptacle for one plug or is it like a house and has 2 plugs? leaving in few days and probably no time to buy so please fast response. wish I had watched soonrr!
Are there any bedrooms on the top floor? Or is it just the roomettes upstairs ?
Bedrooms are all on the top
So personal question. How is the ventilation in those bathrooms?
When you give prices is that for the entire trip?
This is what they implied and usually they go the entire route...
Yes, it is what we meant!
Silver star 91 car 9112, room 008 and 009. How do I find more info. Thanks
You can call in, those are on the upper level on opposite sides of the aisle. They won't know if it is a 1 or 2 until you get on though.
Is the Southwest Chief a superliner 1 or 2
It will have both types

Are all the bedrooms on the upper level?
Yes, only four roomettes, the family room, and the accessible room are downstairs in a Superliner...
Yes they are
How's the water pressure ?
It is good, not like a hotel though
I wish you could pick your room like you can pick your seat on airlines
Yes we do too
You can-if you're getting a bedroom or roomette -but you must call Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL. You cannot select a particular bedroom or roomette in the app or on Amtrak's site.
Thought about the two of you. When that train derailed.
What kind of water comes from the shower..is it recycled water?
The water comes from a storage tank in each car. Amtrak does much more just refueling at fueling stops, they also drain the black and brown tanks, and fill the water tanks... The water is NOT recycled, there is no filter aboard that I am aware of. I use their water for bathing and the toilet, I drink bottled water aboard the train...
@@ronclark9724 thank you..I have a Atl to LA trip coming up needed that info.
Suggest using bottled water for brushing your teeth and washing your face.
invest in a charging bank, It will charge your phone without needing an outlet. I got one for when my mom & I run errands, as the car only has the one plug area. both mom & i can charge our phones when doing the errands.
Do you have any reviews in 2023
You did not mention the bedroom suite?
There is a door between the two bedrooms behind the chair in front of the bathroom which creates a suite. That is the only difference... Its been my experience that door rattles, and I end up using a towel to silence it...
It is technically a room category, probably should have mentioned it, but it is just two bedrooms next to each other really.
@@ronclark9724 travel advice, carry a few items with you, a roll of blue painters tape, to help loose things from rattling, if it's not sufficient, get a roll of dollar trees duct tape. When traveling the tape is handy for annoying LEDs that blink or stay on, like the smoke detector indicator, just a dab over the lights will be sufficient, also put a piece over the peephole to the hallway, it's been recently exposed, persons have reversed the peephole to peep in, either a hotel employee or former occupant. Last but not least, outlets are a premium, most likely you'll get 3 prong outlets easily, but they are in the wrong place, or there's too few, a power strip AND possibly a heavier duty extension cord [like used for a air conditioner just a little too far from the outlet, not necessarily a 15 footer]
wish their was a way to get from Dallas to Charlotte, NC
Ride the Eagle to San Antonio, ride the Sunset Limited to New Orleans, ride the Crescent to Charlotte. Its possible with at least two nights on the train, and maybe a third spending a layover in New Orleans...
@@ronclark9724 wow, that's a lot of transfers, Amtrak is known for delayed trains where they use other railways tracks, Amtrak does NOT get priority on tracks other than their own. So if you miss a connection because of a late train, it means you have to linger somewhere, until the next train with seats available, either a hotel, or staying on a bench in the waiting room.
@@Stache987 If you book in one whole trip if you miss the connection Amtrak will pay the hotel for you if the train is next day and put you on that train.
Maybe that backwards air vent was because someone brought a screwdriver and changed it.
Very possible
Actually couple things wrong with the information here. Accoriding to a webiste a bedroom can sleep 3 people but it would be tight and have to call in to do that. Also the auto train had traditional dinning in the video you said it does not have traditional dinning.
