I think the Daleks are my favourite villains of all time, they’re based on the Nazis not just defined by their hatred but by their unwavering belief that they are the supreme beings. A belief so strong that they killed their own creator because he wasn’t Dalek and therefore they couldn’t comprehend following the orders of a being they deemed lesser than them despite the fact he created them.
I wholy agree, they are definitely ma favorite DW villain at least. As I describe in the video, their inability to feel anything but hate turns them into more of a force of nature than a sentient race, since they are powerless to do anything but hate and act upon their hatred.
@@SirBallsDeepOfHouseManthrustokay, sure , but in this case the Daleks are literally based on the Nazis, it’s well documented that they are and Genesis of the Daleks and their ideology in general makes it pretty obvious that they’re based on the Nazis
@@lewischerry3552 I see what your saying, but I just don’t see very much allusion to Nazism save for the slight visual aesthetic. Something that is much, much more clearly based on Nazism in popular culture is the Empire in Star Wars. It’s extremely obvious that that regime is basically just space Nazis led by an Augustus like figure with a complex ideology and motives. The Dalek’s are just more of a force of nature, there is no motivations or ideology beyond just destroying what isn’t them. I just don’t see many similarities at all to Nazis other than them both being morally abhorrent.
It's the minds of the creatures inside the armor. There are things in the universe that don't think like other sentient beings, and the core concepts of right or wrong across galactic civilization are absent from them, as if they don't apply. THAT is terrifying. The idea that there are powerful things out there in huge numbers of whom you'll never be on the same page with.
The last bit is interesting, what would they do when they run out of things to kill? They have no concept of peace so I think the drive to kill would burn more and more until they kill each other, willingly making 2 factions just so they have something to do.
They would probably just keep going from one galaxy to the next until all were destroyed. After that they would sit in wait for something to evolve, patiently waiting for something to crawl out the mud just so they could stomp it out. They might even go so far to killing smaller forms of life, so going from humans and human like to animals then to germs and viruses as its something different but alive. After there is nothing but dalek not even a single bit of dna in the universe that wasn't dalek, I think they would break through reality with void ships like army of ghosts episode. Or they would attack time, it not good enough that daleks are the only life form they would want to be the only ever life form. They might start stopping life in the past from ever forming
I love that the daleks at some point just become an idea, a force of nature almost. I think though, if they succeeded, there would be no peace for them. In much the same way humans are compelled to explore, when there is nothing else to explore, we feel trapped. Daleks could not function in a universe of no others. Daleks must have war.
That's an intriquing conclusion. A case could be made that if all they can feel is hatred, they are incapable of living in an absence of hatred, so either some in-fighting or self-dissolution would take place.
@@arcaneengine6216Yeah, I’m pretty sure if Davies managed to pull that Reality Bomb trick off and truly succeed in “purifying” the universe by means of winning by default, then they’d probably go crazy and exterminate themselves because they feel like they are impure, perhaps even Dalek Caan, the mad true Dalek that survived the Time War might be left, but even he could die due to the breaking of the Time Lock.
I’ve often made this argument for why the Daleks are ultimately the most terrifying of all the enemies of the Doctor. They are focused, single minded, and arguably pure in their form and function . They are engineered to survive above all things and over all things. What makes this so remarkable is that it is not simply logic that prompts this focus on Darwinistic survival, but they feel so strongly the hatred and contempt they have for others. They are not emotionless but the epitome of hatred and centrism for the most practical reason, survival.

A race of peaceful scientists and scholars in a symbiotic relationship with a race of warriors to keep them safe, until those warriors turned on them. Backed into a corner facing potential extinction, their fear, pain, desperation, and paranoia slowly devolved into hate, malice, and rage, twisting them into the Daleks we know now. A potential reason they show no mercy was because no one showed them any until it was far too late to go back to the way things were.

I agree, that is the premise I was already coming from at 9:40 - since we already seen them in *Journey's End S04E13* to have the capability of destroying *everything* in every reality using the reality bomb, I was trying to imagine a scenario of what would have happened if they had succeded. What’s disturbing as well the Daleks technically started out as something good as the kaleds were mutating due to the chemical and nuclear fallout used in the thousand year war, Davros experimented to find out what they would become and designed a mobile life support device for them. If only he stopped there instead he began creating more of the mutants, editing their brain chemistry and DNA to make them hate and lack compassion, creating the Daleks. A entire race of, armoured eugenics obsessed fascists unleashed onto the universe all because of one man. I created the animation you used, but you credited a video showing off the difference between the original footage and the official animation
I'm going to be as respectful as possible but please think about the audience you grew and why it grew. Norse mythology and Sci fi just aren't on the same page
Hey, I'm just glad you're back and ok,man. I got rely into the whole Norse mythology and your videos were the best, funniest, and easiest ways to understand it all. So thanks for that.
As everyone has already mentioned your storytelling and analysis is very unique Honza, so I'm happy to watch anything that includes it. The point of the video was very interesting and I think this can easily be tied back to an archetypical evil we often see in mythological stories.
the fact that they started off as just hateful aliens in tanks to a threat powerful enough to rival the time lords goes to show just how dangerous they've become
that first animation of a mindless industrial assembly line birth... for some reason it reminded me of another old scifi thing screamers from was it hmm.. 1995 ? ish that saddly maby due to the lees 'stylish' presentation of it etc sighs.. i rarely hear anyone even remember as it likely never been seen by that many... despite a more solid plot then a lot of scifi 'ohh monsters are lose!' where warring factions with a single bunker stronghold each on a mining planet took the concept of mechanical burrowing drones ...and not just automated it fully planet side in a independent production facility ,but also introduced adaptation routines , wich obviously.. as time went on did far more then just improve the physical capabilities of the drones.. it also improved itself as it improved the drones ,to the point a mechanical species was born that with ease could make 'mimics' of anything in physical form.. and that intentionally started to hijack BOTH factions transmissions on the planet to the point one of the locals and the factions they where part of becoming completely ignorant of the real situation on the planet , and of what happened outside it and the 'disturbing' scary part of it.. not like it was a ''com blackout' no the machines listened until they could mimic the local officers and the off planet leaders to the point neither knew their decryption been broken or that they where talking to a intelligence with genocidal plans.. as guess how the machines padded out their resources to the point of becoming so many that offensive action of either bunker's manpower became near impossible ..setting up the situation for the machines to start misslead both the local humans and the offworld ones of a 'stalemate' situation.. yep , flesh , sinews ,bones... grease & lube while metal being added to the reserves and if you think the machines hade some contrived rule to only mimic a few things..nooope.. from basic functional 'worm' drones with intentionally inefficient sensors.. to ANYTHING else ..or anyone else honestly a better version of 'the thing' concept ,as the thing stuff always loses me as authors using it falls into one of two holes :/ ...either the dam thing conjures biomass out of thin air or.. for contrived reasons it dosent bother with infecting anything that not is directly related to humans
also.. side point but , if capable of time travle.. but not part of the fabric of space time , no they are not a constant of the cosmos only a constant of their universe still bound to its fabric pattern so to speak and dimensional crossing having access to the multiverse ,well THAT is one fk of a dual edged thing to have XD sure they are badass.. but they also face things if trying to go byond their origin universe that laugh at the 'constants' of them.. 40 k chaos for example and other such cosmic 'natural' forces ..even if trying to exterminate them or everything around them said forces like that just say 'no' ..or take daleks in equal amount to create other 'not' dalek stuff from.. wich also force the daleks into perhaps the one scenario they cant handle.. even if they get the capability to exterminate everything else.. there are some things that in that case still turn the last daleks into 'not' dalek how to handle that for a intellect that cannot hold back from trying to exterminate everything yet at the same time.. in doing so it ensure dalek extermination and the rebirth of 'not' dalek infestations so to speak.
If the Daleks ever succeed in exterminating all other life in the universe, they would surely turn on each other in time. With undying hatred and unwavering belief in their own superiority, eventually, they would kill each other for not being 'Dalek enough'. Only the sole survivor would be the True Dalek, one so ready and able to exterminate that it would exterminate itself, for if given the choice to exterminate or to not exterminate, it will commit that action *every single time* no matter the target. A peaceful Dalek is not a Dalek. A Dalek that will not exterminate is not a Dalek.
I'd love to hear a doctor who unbound where the daleks actually win, sort of of like the story he jests at scars, where the valeyard wins. It could be interesting, I could see the daleks maybe deliberately creating different strains of daleks and other new species in order to then exterminate them, sprt of like entertainment. Maybe in the peace some daleks begin to evolve and think beyond their need to destroy, eventually leading to some daleks turning against their own kind and protects the new lifeforms. Maybe the what if ends with far in the future where the rogue evolved daleks won and the daleks are being created again and maybe everything that happened was just a prequel (like superman red son).
Originally the Daleks weren't raw hatred. When they were first made, they had artists and gardeners, and they were a civilization. It's really a much later addition that they were hatred at their core. Based on that, then if they ever won, it's not inconceivable that they would have developed a far more rounded society.
I have an idea for an dalek captain, he faces soon total destruction, he has no reinforcements, and armour is wounded, an logical creature would go to face it fear however this captain comes to an conclusion "if I am to be elimanted then I shall destroy everything" the idea is that this dalek fears failure in it mission but not death, in it logic the Mission must be completed and in order for this it must not die, as said an dalek that embrace the idea of total annihilation for all.
Interesting. You should have used the word 'Compulsion' by the way, and 'transcending' didn't fit. Also, Daleks keep changing, nit even close to a cosmic constant - their hate - in general is though. Several Daleks have experienced emotions, Sec for one. Many Daleks were infected with Timelord and Human DNA - and were destroyed by the others. And what of the rainbow coloured chaps ? But, I niggle 🙂Fantastic graphics and video, really higher than top notch. Philosophically, when all goals are achieved then the story restarts - in the Big Bang ( when God gets bored ).
I think this is a crucial point that made me change my mind on the ultimate fate of the Daleks. If they were to succeed in exterminating everything else, then they would have nothing more to hate. BUT if they have nothing more to hate, they cease to have that fundamental trait that makes them Dalek. I think they would then exterminate themselves, since they are no longer "pure" Daleks. They really are the Uroboros, eating its own tail.
By watching this video, I came to a very scary conclusion. The Daleks are even more deadly than the Borg, why? The Borg want to add individuals, Daleks want to annihilate.....As Davros once said ( Today, the Kaled race is ended, consume in a fire of ore, from it's ashes shall rise a new race, the supreme creature, the ultimate conqueror of the universe, the DALEK!! ) No matter how many you destroy, there's always some that remain, they survive, they always survive!
I wouldn't consider the Daleks themselves to be evil, but their creator, Davros most certainly. He made them to be this was, hate is all Daleks have ever known, since they came to be, all Daleks have ever known is that should either be Dalek or be destroyed. Davros made them that way in order to win a war, but even then it backfired because of how he'd made the Daleks. He'd made them hate other living beings, and he himself was not Dalek, thus, to his own creations; he was inferior.
Excellent video, if and when they destroy the multiverse of everything then they would turn on each other and start to become paranoid about how pure they themselves are! Could you do a video on The Cybermen? They are also a constant! I find them far more fascinating, maybe The Sontarans too?
Hello, glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I haven't even thought about those topics and so have no intention in covering them especially when I have more than enough i want to tackle as is.
I have my doubts a universe only of daleks would have lasting peace. A strong desire to kill the unlike would pervade, they would find new differences to justify extermination
@@arcaneengine6216 No rush. The lore is really interesting to sink your teeth into anyway, so no rush. If you want one just for fun, try Mortal Engines and its book series
This makes me want to play Stellaris as the Daleks again. I want to say that when it comes to Sci-Fi, I prefer Star Trek. Doctor Who is my favorite show ever, but the "history" changes with each episode. It's too inconsistent, convoluted and complicated. Everything is either canon or not canon. Despite saying that. Lord, I wish the Daleks were in Star Trek. Like, I don't even want the doctor or other Doctor Who characters in that like "crossover". Being of pure hate facing off against the United Federation of Planets would be poetry.
I think its important to note that Daleks weren't initially genetically hateful. Over years and years of genetic alteration they were made to be genetically fascist, but that was only because they were already fascists ideologically. If you don't mention that, you're basically engaging in the same biological essentialism as the *-nazis-* daleks themselves.

Edit: I have noticed you credited a different video than what you used.
I created the animation you used, but you credited a video showing off the difference between the original footage and the official animation
The first video in years is out. What do you think?
I'm going to be as respectful as possible but please think about the audience you grew and why it grew. Norse mythology and Sci fi just aren't on the same page
@@edwalmsley1401 Fair point, thank you. As I said, I needed to start somewhere.
Very good. More please
Dalek shells are made out of Dalekanium
Dalek mined, Dalek refined, Dalek forged...but is it *Dalek* ?
the fact that they started off as just hateful aliens in tanks to a threat powerful enough to rival the time lords goes to show just how dangerous they've become
that first animation of a mindless industrial assembly line birth... for some reason it reminded me of another old scifi thing screamers from was it hmm.. 1995 ? ish
that saddly maby due to the lees 'stylish' presentation of it etc sighs.. i rarely hear anyone even remember as it likely never been seen by that many...
despite a more solid plot then a lot of scifi 'ohh monsters are lose!' where warring factions with a single bunker stronghold each on a mining planet took the concept of mechanical burrowing drones ...and not just automated it fully planet side in a independent production facility ,but also introduced adaptation routines , wich obviously.. as time went on did far more then just improve the physical capabilities of the drones..
it also improved itself as it improved the drones ,to the point a mechanical species was born that with ease could make 'mimics' of anything in physical form.. and that intentionally started to hijack BOTH factions transmissions on the planet to the point one of the locals and the factions they where part of becoming completely ignorant of the real situation on the planet , and of what happened outside it and the 'disturbing' scary part of it.. not like it was a ''com blackout' no the machines listened until they could mimic the local officers and the off planet leaders to the point neither knew their decryption been broken or that they where talking to a intelligence with genocidal plans..
as guess how the machines padded out their resources to the point of becoming so many that offensive action of either bunker's manpower became near impossible ..setting up the situation for the machines to start misslead both the local humans and the offworld ones of a 'stalemate' situation..
yep , flesh , sinews ,bones... grease & lube while metal being added to the reserves
and if you think the machines hade some contrived rule to only mimic a few things..nooope.. from basic functional 'worm' drones with intentionally inefficient sensors.. to ANYTHING else ..or anyone else
honestly a better version of 'the thing' concept ,as the thing stuff always loses me as authors using it falls into one of two holes :/ ...either the dam thing conjures biomass out of thin air or.. for contrived reasons it dosent bother with infecting anything that not is directly related to humans
also.. side point but , if capable of time travle.. but not part of the fabric of space time , no they are not a constant of the cosmos only a constant of their universe still bound to its fabric pattern so to speak
and dimensional crossing having access to the multiverse ,well THAT is one fk of a dual edged thing to have XD sure they are badass.. but they also face things if trying to go byond their origin universe that laugh at the 'constants' of them..
Hegemonising swarm
I think they’d just sit around and do nothing.
Thank you for The Dalek video.
10:35 they will turn on each other, they need to destroy .
I think they’ll just commit Dalek-cide.
Hate is strength
You say this channel has been gone for a long time. But minus one video I don't see anything else you've posted. Can you please explain?
If the Daleks win 🏆 and have nothing more to hate, could they still be considered "Daleks"?
Just found this. Very good. Have subbed. Thank you. Any plans on loch Ness or the Mona Lisa ? Thanks
Hello, glad you enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I haven't even thought about those topics and so have no intention in covering them especially when I have more than enough i want to tackle as is.
This for the algorithm [spelled wrong probably]
*BADASS.*
You need to do one based on the Cybermen
I have my doubts a universe only of daleks would have lasting peace. A strong desire to kill the unlike would pervade, they would find new differences to justify extermination
I think they’d just commit Dalek-cide.
Will you still be returning to Norse mythology though?
I will!
Excellent...
But I'm still wondering about fjalar and galar
Those bastards have been haunting my nightmares all these years xD
@@arcaneengine6216 😂😂
It is acceptable (read in Dalek voice) 😅 just found it and I think it’s going to be good, showing the relentless unwavering sense to EXTERMINATE
Daleks are _superior_
why does this have a hundred likes-
I have an idea for a Fantasy topic you can cover: the book series that The Black Cauldron is from
Thanks for the tip. It might be a while till I read through them but I wanted some new fantasy series to read in spare time.
@@arcaneengine6216 No rush. The lore is really interesting to sink your teeth into anyway, so no rush.
If you want one just for fun, try Mortal Engines and its book series
The daleks are what the space marines wish they could be
Beings solely dedicated to war and destroying enemies
there was no substance here, no opinion. What *was* your theory?
Hatred is not their emotion, Hatred is their ideology
I just can’t take these guys design seriously enough
