Evan Bright It may seem so but I'd argue that it's better than starting later, as it gives you time to learn your limits. For example, Iceland has a drinking age of 20 and has much higher alcoholism rates and binge drinking than the other nordic countries, which have drinking ages of 16.
On a side note, don't you think it's surreal that at 18 you're supposedly mature enough to buy a house, get married, join the military and fight and die for your country but you're 3 years too young to handle a few beers?
