    That's really cool to see your thought process as well as your design process.

    Hey Chris, this is a great video. The process of prepping your files for production is such an overlooked step in the world of design/illustration. Before becoming a full-time graphic designer, I worked for a few years as a pre-press tech, and I can tell you first-hand that a little knowledge in this department will go a long way in streamlining your production, saving time/money, and keeping your printer happy. Nice work!

      Thanks so much! I think my years as a graphic designer working closely with different printers really helped me in this area.

    I'm totally stealing your mantra. My previous mantra I stole from Verizon's really old commercial where they used to say "Make progress everyday" which isn't bad but yours is more fun : )

    your content made me start to use Fr! ive had creative cloud for years and have been wanting to get more into illustration (im majoring in graphic design and im very inclined to using illustrations in my projects more than photography) and felt like photoshop was too clunky for illustrarions, now im hooked to fresco!

    As always, thanks for sharing your process! I'm curious to know what is the largest printed piece you've produced from fresco or procreate or do you draw directly in Photoshop or illustrator as well?
    I am into large format printing. I do signs, banners, decals, etc and I've always been interested in procreate but the size/resolution limits always kept me from getting an iPad and investing the time etc... especially since I am more capable with the pen tool than i am with an actual pen.
    Now with vector brushes and fills, I'm diving into Fresco but I'm quickly discovering that if i want to make something like 3×3' or larger, I'm going to have to import my Fresco work into another program. I'm interested in that workflow and wondering what advice you could give for upscaling fresco drawings into very large prints.
    Definitely enjoyed this MFA piece. You are a BMF ☮️

      Thanks so much! Glad you liked the video. I've had things printed on billboards that I've drawn in Fresco. I just used vector brushes for that. I do draw directly in Photoshop from time to time, but it's generally if I'm just doing something with animation that's more complicated than I can do in Fresco.
      Fresco's size limitation when working with pixel brushes is about 27"x27" at 300dpi. But if you're printing something bigger than that you're usually not going to be using 300dpi as it's meant to be viewed with a little distance. At 150dpi you're at almost 55" and even up close that would look pretty clean. But if you're using vector brushes its obviously infinitely scalable.
      Fresco works seamlessly with Photoshop and Illustrator, with Photoshop you can just open it right up from your files as Fresco files are Photoshop files. For vector stuff you can send it directly to illustrator from Fresco.
      You can also use the ipad as a additional display / drawing tablet with any other Mac.
      Hope that's helpful!

    • @onnaquest
      @onnaquest ปีที่แล้ว

      @@chris-piascik Ah yea I was a little confused, but your reply is helpful knowledge. 55" is definitely workable compared to procreate. I have two panels for inside my shop that are 66x30 and I tap out at ~124 dpi.
      I really dig some of these pixel brushes so I don't want to go all vector. I'm a little disappointed I can't import vector brushes I use in Illustrator, but maybe that will be in a software update. Anyways, thanks again dude!

    Hey. Any recommendations for simple illustrations that need a background? (Like a simple food friend that has to be a square sticker but there’s too much white but a solid color would distract or clash poorly?) hard to describe. But I think you know what I mean. (Essentially I can’t die cut bc of budget, but it’s missing something.)

    I always struggle with pricing. You're offcourse not going to share what you earned for this but I wonder what would be a average price to ask for something like this? Do you work with a fixed fee or hourly?

    • @chris-piascik
      @chris-piascik  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pricing is definitely a struggle even after doing it for a long time. The main reason is that illustration is generally priced based on what it's being used for-which is why a similar illustration for a small independent business would cost much less than if it were for a big corporation. I don't work hourly for a number of reasons, one being that the more experience you have the faster you'll be able to work-and the less you'll make. And, as I mentioned illustration should be priced for what it will be used for. That's sometimes referred to as "value based pricing".

    Some people find it really hard to show conception to final piece and this step by step example is so useful.
