September 2024 - Amaretto Bourbon Sour

I have always enjoyed cocktails with amaretto and as you all know I do enjoy my bourbon. The Amaretto-Bourbon sour is a wonderful drink that combines both and will surprise most anyone with its delicious flavor. This drink utilizes egg whites to create a very frothy foam on the top of the drink which is then garnished first by squeezing a lemon peel over the foam that provides a wonderful lemon scent and topped with lemon peel and cherries on a cocktail pick. Don’t be intimidated by the egg whites and instead think of them as the meringue of the cocktail similar to how whipped egg whites are used for meringue for pies. The double shake (once dry - no ice, then with ice) helps whip the egg whites into a frothy top and the drink as a whole is velvety sour with a touch of almond to highlight the background of bourbon. A great drink to start the fall as we enter the cooler months of the year. This is a beautiful drink to share with friends and will surprise most non-bourbon drinkers with its delightful flavors and depth. Enjoy!!!!
