To give a little background on sigma
As you saw he was trying to control the power of the black hole, but what he saw at the end of it, drove him mad, the power and the unknown questions of the universe
He was split into three personalities
(The madman, the scientist, and the warrior)
He was imprisoned by one of the government branches to try and assist him(he was mostly in the mad man due to his brain trying to cope with this trauma and it was causing him to use his gravity abilities wildly)
this lead to the TALON agents on a rescue mission, not of good means, they want to use sigmas destructive and near uncombative powers of subject: sigma
They now are(moslty doom, and Moria) manipulating sigma because he has no memory of his past life, only sombra is really concern with him and tries being friends, but sigma isn’t a bad guy, it’s manipulation
There's one more origin story they released: Ramattra

You are forgetting the fact that the doomfist origin video came out in overwatch 1. When the "DOOM" in doomfist meant something and made people actually stop playing the game
