    Please do this with more decks. Picking up tips for goldfishing is helpful but honestly I was just really entertained. I especially liked how you explained which times you thought interaction would come your way and acted it out.

      It's also so fun and revealing to do after just brewing a new deck. I'm currently using Moxfield for this and - while far from perfect - it lets me figure out quite quickly if a deck that I brewed would actually be fun and cohesive to play before buying any of the cards. I'm not a shill for Moxfield, btw., many sites seem to offer such functionality. I highly recommend brewing a list online before buying anything for that reason.

It was both unscripted but in-depth and the editing was great at smoothing it out. I'd love to see and hear more videos about your other decks or by other members of the team !

    My favorite MTG content is people gushing about their own decks and explaining the intricacies. Not only do you get to see the love for the deck, but you get insight that only comes from actually playing a deck week after week.

    So sillyness first, seeing Joey's excitement for his "baby lasagna" and literally anything he does with it is hilarious ro me 😆
    On a more serious note, I love this style of content! It's something I haven't seen pop up before and it really does open my eyes to a TON of the things I didn't even consider were options for Baba Lysaga and caed evaluation in general! I've heard Joey talk about/mention this deck so much I was almost tired of it but this video alone makes me want to put together some version of a lysaga list and rry it out!
    TL:DR, great content, more please 😆

  • @Peronioz
    @Peronioz ปีที่แล้ว +16

    Goldfishing is fun!
    But I like to use a d6 while doing it (because I play on a very competitive environment, casual tables might use a d10 or d12). Every time I do something I would roll the d6, and if I get a 5 or 6 I pretend someone interacted with something I was doing.
    If I'm casting a spell, it gets countered. If I'm activating a creature, it gets removed. During big attacks, I get boardwiped.
    It helps a lot to see the resilience of the deck, how well I can interact with other interactions or protect myself.
    And for my own interactions/removal, I use them as soon as I can. Counterspells I keep until I roll a 6.

    • @Blacklodge_Willy
      @Blacklodge_Willy ปีที่แล้ว

      May I ask, once you play in person have results been even better because you goldfished this way. I'm willing to try this method for sure.

    • @johnathanrhoades7751
      @johnathanrhoades7751 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That is brilliant!! I’ve just sort of done it as a “sometimes it fails”, but putting it on a die is a wonderful idea.

    • @Dragon_Fyre
      @Dragon_Fyre ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not very often that you get board wiped ‘when you attack’. I would probably just be rolling a dice for that every turn after I have 4+ creatures in play.

      Ooooh, good idea!

    • @Peronioz
      @Peronioz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Dragon_Fyre you clearly don't play against enough Cyclonic Rifts/Perplexing Tests/Settle the Wreckages
      the thing is, on competitive tables, board wipes are a way to use a single card to remove multiple threats;:even if you only have one creature it might be removed as collateral for the removal of another player's creature. On cEdh your cards have to be worth three times as much!
      Why run Doomblades when Wraths cost 4?

    When Goldfishing, I use an 8 sided die to determine if my opponents interact with my permanents. On a 7 or 8, they do, and I use odds or evens to determine the type of interaction (for example 7 might mean single target removal and 8 a board wipe). I do this every turn (on my turn) from turn 4 onwards (my playgroup typically spends the first 3 turns setting up and its extremely rare for someone to interact before then.)

    • @Dragon_Fyre
      @Dragon_Fyre ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I find unless you are going to goldfish 4 decks to see how they play against each other, actual game experience is required versus goldfishing to gain any real insight into further modifying the deck.
      I mostly goldfish my decks to try and determine whether my mana base requires more or less lands/ramp to be functional. Typically I have 36-38 lands.

    I love Baba Lysaga. I've given here bit more of a life gain/life loss focus than your version of the deck, but every now and then I check in on your list to see some cards I may not have thought of. The Starscream addition is brilliant (though I'm with you that it kinda messes with the flavor feel). I've played a couple games with her at this point and I'm tweaking the list to give myself a little bit more interaction and a few ways to accelerate life loss, but otherwise it's an incredibly fun deck.

As you mentioned in previous videos, piloting decks that require a lot of shuffling becomes less appealing with time. Using platforms like archidekt or moxfiled allows me to make multiple changes to my brews without going through the whole process of acquiring said card(or proxy), sleeving/unsleeving, shuffling up and play testing.

    14:37 Greed is good. I find it's better to push yourself to play more liberally than conservatively, as this truly tests to see if you made the deck to flow smoothly. If you find you end up bricking a lot by doing so, then it's likely a hint that your ratios are off with your engine.
    Ideally, if you can replenish your hand as fast as you can dump it, then that's a sign your mana curve aligns with your card velocity. There are cases where a deck might draw cards in bursts, but then having to discard to handsize, being an indicator the mana curve isn't quite sound; conversely, there are many times where you dump your hand...but can't refill it - this being an indicator you need more card velocity.

    This is really interesting to see but when I goldfish, I'm quite sure I don't do it right at all.
    I pull out 3 of my other decks, do quick shuffles & play a half-life game instead. It helps me see not only how my new deck plays but also how my old decks interacts with the new playstyle of the trial deck. I'm also terrible at imagining how games night go (I'm too new to MTG and too optimistic so I need the actual cards played). 😅

    On Urza's saga
    Because the mode switch as a triggered ability when entering the main phase, you can
    1. get the 3rd ability of the saga (tutor for stuff)
    2. TAP for (1) mana in response
    3. SAC it to Baba for her trigger
    ...and if you can reanimate it at instant speed on your upkeep, it will
    1. ETB trigger the 1st ability
    2. Main phase trigger the 2nd ability
    Sagas are weird like that. :3

    I love this idea for a series. Idk how practical it is but I wonder if you could goldfish decklists that aren't yours
