I have created something similar for grilling / BBQing so that I can get the smoke flavor without having to always have charcoal... I made mine so that it uses my natural gas supply instead of the LPG tanks... I'm in the SE Texas Gulf Coast area and have 3 Live Oak trees around my house and I seem to always have plenty of wood for smoking just from the occasional trimming of the limbs that get too close to the house... Not as good tasting as mesquite or hickory, but it's better than just plain gas or charcoal... My next project is to create a vertical one out of a gas hot water heater that I replaced a couple of years ago... I had originally converted it to use as a vertical feed "buffet" feeder for my dogs for when I was out of the country for a couple of months at a time, but I don't foresee that being a need again at this point in my life, so time to repurpose it... One thing that I would want to add to this though is a mount to be able to use a rotisserie in it...
So cant wait to see what she comes up with. Thanks, i really hated to do it but with as much as we grill our meets I cant seem to keep wood long enough. I really think this thing is going to work out well. We are going to test it soon.
I did that with the same burner in my smoker but I made a 2-1/2 inch hole for the burner air inlet to stick through with a tight fit, your burner looks a little air starved. I can get mine up as high as 450 degrees in a couple minutes with a vertical box smoker.
Done a brisket in there yet, how long and how’d it turn out. I’m looking to do this with my offset, watching your vid clarified the ring burner is suitable enough to do the job👌🏽🔥
You don't need to give too much info, but whereabouts you guys posted up? I'm from Beaumont, but my parents live in Lumberton. They're building a home in Longview to live closer to my grandparents. Also lived in Littlefield, Victoria, Belton, Temple, San Antonio...
Hey, I want to do the same thing, how low does the temp go with that burner set up. can you get it to sit steady at 225? I hope you still respond to questions.
Great question, you sure can. What I found was adding a temp prob to the fire box helped as the firebox would need to run hotter than food area. Also you can use the stacks to help regulate as well. We do ours at 225 slow cooking and works out great. Hope this helps.
@@BubbasgarageTv Well, I purchased the same set up and I could not keep it at 225, the flame had to be so low to hit that temp, it went out 2 or 3 times. perhaps the regulator I received was defective. I have another plan..
Interesting, yeah even on low that burner generally takes a some good wind to blow it out. We so have the doors closed up on the fire box. Keep us posted for sure. And be safe. This is by no means a pro install. Just a country boy in a back yard with a bbq pit lol
Great idea. I've used propane powered smokers for years. One thought though, I think you're starving your burner of oxygen, I see all yellow and orange flame. Use a hole saw to allow the air/gas mixture valve to protrude just outside of the smoker box. This should give you the blue flame you want. This will make your burner more efficient and cause much less soot build up.
Can you explain what you exactly mean? Use a hole saw to allow the air/gas mixture to protrude just outside? Where is the air/gas mixture valve located?
@@adiyogi9705 Apologies for the delayed response. Most propane burners have a vent that can be adjusted at the front of the burner intake. If you have access to a turkey fryer you will see the silver air flow vent. This of course will need to sit outside of the firebox, thats the reasoning behind the holesaw comment. A little creativity with some flanges inside and out, should help with the stability of the burner.
@@geraldadcock5352 you mean the big round air shutter that goes on the end of the burner?? So you don't want just the brass part sticking out?? i may have to find a tube burner instead of a round one then.. that may be better?
@@92greenebeen Yes, if your using the large round based burner, a tubed style burner will have an air/fuel mixture point as well. If you don't have a larger diameter hole saw, this may be a better option.
I have a bbq guru attatched in the same spot on the firebox of my offset.. its electric that controls the heat at the temp you want.. the hole i had to make was 1 and 3/8in big.. Could I take the device out and do the propane burner with hose going through that same hole if i wanted to use propane one day instead??? since the hole is 1 3/8inch im sure the hose would fit through it.. can the hole in the firebox be too big?? Or it doesnt matter?????
@@BubbasgarageTv im back again man.. im getting a propane burner just like that one from Academy next week for my char griller XD.. they have a bracket thats kind of blocking me from drilling.. im not sure if i will have the space.. but i hear propane builds up and can cause a boom.. i just want to do this safe as possbile.. did you have any problems with fumes building up or explosions?? Lastly what size hole did you have to drill to fit the Orifice part to connect the hose??
where do you get the burner snnd regulator from how about some links to where you get this stiff from you didn't really give good information about the process
Thanks so much Robby, It worked out really well we used this setup for about a year. With this setup I was easily able to get up to 450 on it but never needed to as we smoke our meets at about 200/225. The way I had this setup I'm not sure I would use it as an assist because it all of the ash and such from wood burning logs would clog up the burner. But the way I used it with the cast iron pot and smoking wood chunks it worked out really well. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the response. Ye I cook at about 225 to 250 but the weather in the UK is shocking so that's more why I wanted to no the top temp. Your a star will buy it and give it a go.

Too bad. I hope she keeps drawing & doing her art. It amazes me. I only do stick people. The smoker seems almost a must if you can't get wood. Looks like it works good. I have an electric smoker.
