Hi girl, great to see new vid from you! First.. you always look happy and positive , that's great. Second, do you mind I ask which city you are located? As I understand there are huge differences among SA cities.
Awesome. I think starting in contracting will benefit your consulting career. Essentially, as a consultant, you're managing the project costs executed by the Contactor on behalf of the Client. So you'd now have more technical knowledge from the Contractor - less likely to get ripped off by the Contractor 🤣
And also the Contracting side how they calculate the area and all quantities differs from consultancy, cauz they are all about making profit whereas for consultancy they want to save the cost and make sure the client does not spend much..
Hey Nothando, I have contracting background but it’s been really hard for me to get into consulting. I’m often asked if I have consulting experience. I want to have experience in both. Why do you think it’s so difficult to switch?
I think Consulting is all about the finer details, like putting the BOQ together from scratch, the wording, spacing , measurements , the structure and creating the templates ( from my experience) and in Contracting all of those things are already put together... you even get a glimpse of what's actually unnecessary and it's more about the funds and you even create your own system a bit ... So the switch is stressful because you're put into this super strict box and things have to be in absolute detail. I hope I'm making sense.
@@NothandoMoloi hey Nothando, hope you well. So I got an interview at a property development company. I’m thinking the job specs might be similar to consulting. Can you please assist with interview questions if you can ? 🙏🏾
Yes you can work in consulting or site with a QS degree. Job offers are dependent on a lot of variables so the comparison isn’t that easy. You’re better off applying everywhere when you’re searching.
Hi, as you came from contracting did you find it difficult to secure a consulting role? Did you incur in any barriers? The reason why I ask is because I started in consulting, predominantly bank monitoring and Employers Agent work (similar to project management) but recently secured a role as a contractor QS, simply for the experience, but always intend to go back to consultancy. Thanks for your advice in advance.
Securing the role wasn’t difficult but then the work was a complete switch for me. It was overwhelming in the beginning, very different from Contracting... I worked for a rather large contractor so the BOQs were already set up. Switching to where you create BOQs from scratch was overwhelming.
@@NothandoMoloi Two days into my contracting role and I've found out that producing BoQ is outsourced to another team, frustrating!.. But still gaining other good experience in other areas.. How did you find producing BoQ now? are you pretty comfortable with it after some practise?

Hey girl , I’ve recently decided to study quantity surveying , however for the past couple of years I’ve always wanted to become an architect, so the built environment / construction is quite intriguing to me . I don’t really know much about quantity surveying so Im kinda struggling to write personal statement for university.I see that you’re highly knowledgeable about quantity surveying and would really appreciate if you could help me to write my personal statement at a cost . I hope that you reply to my comment soon. Keep up the good work , your videos are very inspiring.

Around the same range
