Hi Harvey, loved your vidio, I love to see koi fry and how they develope, I buy fry as young as I can get them, normaly 3 week old from New Forest Koi, I have a couple of vids up on how mine have developed this year, got them as I say at 3 weeks at end of May, and a second batch in June, £32 for 250 + 30 p+p, I am thrilled with some of the colours and patterns, I kept about 40, and moved the rest on, New Forest Koi took on Mark Gardener's Koi when he sadly passed, anyway good luck with growing them on, I have subscribed and hit the notification bell, best wishes, Anthony

Big kin in there is Kikokuryu, kujaku has colour splashed over netted spine pattern, not solid spine like shushui. Overall Lovely video, thank you for sharing your fry. Gorgeous beautiful fish!! Out of interest, how much was the fry for what quantity? I’ve brought from new forest for few years but they’re tiny in comparison to those (6-8 weeks)
Hi. What do you feed fry that's between 1-2 inches in length? Is there a certain type of food they need, a certain amount and how often should they be fed? Also, is there/when is the point where you should switch out their food?
I tend to feed them a 1-2 multimeters food at that size. And it’s better to feed a fry food. I feed 2-3 times a day. You should switch them onto larger pellets when they get large enough to eat it so around 4-6 inches.
@@UkKoiFish Alright. I've noticed that koi fish tends to be pretty gluttonous so it's a bit hard sometimes to judge if they actually need more food or not. I'm trying to help a friend of mine that keeps fry in tank before their size gets too big. I think she has it covered for the most part but I get a bit suspicious seeing that one of them is growing significantly faster than the others and they "act" like they’re always hungry. I'm trying to figure out wether the bigger one is hogging all the food, if they’re fed sufficiently or wether it's just genetics. Either way, they’re gonna get moved outdoors in about a month or so.
@@twistedpersonality also they will always look hungry as they have no way of knowing they have eaten enough so just stick to the usual amount you’d feed them .

So like after a bunch of our koi went missing we brought them in because we didn't want to lose any more and bought a breeder tank and put some water plants in and two days later there were eggs. What makes koi like breed and do the female koi always have eggs in them? or like what makes them produce the eggs? and how do you know when they are about to release? I'm so confused on this like I would like to know how koi breeders just take in two koi from the pond each year without even checking for eggs idk it's hard to explain what I'm confused about.
@@yeonjoonhong9833 I have made a video explaining some of these points if it’s hard to understand but . If the female koi is 2-3 years old and her belly is soft and squishy during spring and summer she has eggs. It depends on the time of year and temperature for example mine spawned in July due to the high temperatures. And you can tell if they might be about to spawn as the males will chase the females around and push them

I fed them on Daphnia as they are the most nutritious and cost nothing once you get a culture going

They were around 100 pounds

Yes some of the fish in there are from the spawning but only a few

@@twistedpersonality that fish is most likely bigger due to genetics as it is quite common for a few fry to get much larger than others.

Well colour is generally visible very early on but it takes a few months for patterns to be visible
