- Ferrari will unleash further upgrades at the Monaco GP as the challenge to stop Red Bull and Max Verstappen is nearly complete. McLaren's Lando Norris pushed Max hard in the latter stages of the Imola GP, with Ferrari and then Mercedes not too far behind, as Sergio Perez struggled.

Only the last 10 laps were exciting because we actually saw drivers pushing. The rest of the race like all the others is about tire deg. So we watch the fastest racers in the world watch their tires for an hour. I love formula one but I am so sick of watching cars not on the edge. I am okay with one driver or team dominating at times, it is a part of the sport. But, watching zero battles and zero aggression for an entire race is finally getting to me. They must do something about the tire situation
Agree. Too much variability in tire deg. They need to get rid of compounds. One slick compound. One wet compound.
Give Max a decent teammate instead of Checo….
All they have to do to solve almost every issue is remove cost cap. There is aloooooot more money in the sport now. Manufacturers will buy into the cost barrier to be competitive. They have bunched up the field now. But bunching of the field doesn’t make racing exciting, overtaking does. If everyone is on the same pace then that means everyone is equal and just stays in place and strategy is decided based on tire and pit strat instead of racing
@@Bot_967costcap is good. makes teams valuable and profitable so you dong have the revolving door of micro teams. but giving cars tires made of soft cheese is the issue. noone can push because slow and steady means the tires last long enough to make up for lost time of extra pitstop compared to pushing
RB seem to struggle when the tyres are out of their operational window. Same as any other team. Problem is I think, they're so easy on the tyres it gives problems with keeping them in the window.

Seeing the 2nd RB getting passed by everyone was an odd sight.

George spends the entire race trying to match Lewis' pace, that's practically all he pays attention to, but he's slower than Lewis. Therefore he overdrive & burns through his tires. That's it in a nutshell.

Piastri looked faster than Norris, but couldn’t get past Sainz. Lost about 3 tenths a lap during the first stint!

😂 You don't have an eye for detail do you. You not taking note how they going backwards. Or are you coping... At the beginning of the year they had almost 0.6 per lap advantage and now maybe a tenth or less. And they don't have newey to bail them out.

@@jeffsteyn7174 RB's car is good, they have only reached the ceiling for how fast these cars can go, now the others are catching up after taking RB's innovations. The cars can't go as fast as they want, RB found a lot of speed in these regulations right when it started. This is how it usually looks, all teams will find momentum at the end of the regulations. Then they also have to beat Max, that's a battle in itself - because he's the best driver on the track.
Newey didn't have much to do with this car, you've heard what RB said, his role has been completely exaggerated. Seems like Newey is a big diva, he wants all the glory and now they had enough, they gave Waché the glory he should have, because he was more important to the car. If that wasn't the case, why would they let Newey go?

What is noticeable is that Max has the least variation in the mean lap times table. Metronome.

Love the vids but a little point of minor feedback, quite weird to see monaco grand prix in the bottom right when reviewing imola. You could always switch the visual when talking about the next race. Keep up the work rab and I also love the CDL content ❤😉

The slipstream that Mark Scott, if you analyse the first sector in the previous lap. Look at it Max pole was genuine
What we tend to forget is that redbull several times told Max to chill a bit the last 2 seasons so he could take the car all the way. Now that they are getting pushed a bit we see the problems comes up so the question is if these problems been there before too but just that we didnt see them since they were so far ahead and didnt need to push the car to the max every time.
The sad truth is that F1 as a spectator sport, has struggled for a few years now. Relying on poor weather and/or safety cars to produce any excitement.

The driver who dares gets closest to the walls makes the most difference in monaco but if they can improve slow corners with the car it will help a bit to get the lap time out of the car
So since the new regs in 2022, this is the 1st time the cars are looking to be getting close and BOOM
new regs inbound so we dont get some close racing🤣🤣

It is about freaking time we get rid of these freaking tires and their talent shine. Fix them and make it mandatory that they pit at least once (on tracks that are known for one-stoppers) and twice for all the others. I am flabbergasted that this is still an issue.

It seems like Newey to AM would make more sense with their current struggles. Ferrari are holding their own and are pretty competitive. I'm sure LS would match or beat any offer given to him.

Ha-ha!!! As Piastri proved that overtaking was only possible through a pit stop, Lando would have had less than 'NO' chance to overtake Max at any point in the race.
I did enjoy the chase at the end, but commentators and pundits exclaiming that it was an "incredible fight" and "F1 at its finest" just makes my eyes roll: he was in the process of catching up, and sadly DIDN'T. You gotta catch up before you can "fight" another driver.

Newey played a part in what setups to use. Now he's pretty much done, there set ups have been appalling, nowhere near as optimal. Coiensendence? I think not
What absolutely baffles me between Lewis and George is... the fact that Lewis is leaving for Ferrari, yet he was the one who was trying out there set ups to help the team, while George does a set up that benefits him only. All so he can try to beat Lewis, for what 6th, 7th, 8th 😂😂😂

It would so great to see a competitive driver in that second RB seat. Lewis/Nico was spicy at times, with Nico even grabbing a championship. This is just one race after another that's over on Saturday. I hope the McLaren/Ferrari improvements continue. One good thing with this new ground effect era is that I waste a lot less time watching. I skip watching quali/race broadcasts and watch the 10 min highlights, just to see if anything unexpected happened🤪

Respectfully disagree about dropping Imola. The track consistently produces good racing largely due to the difficulty of the track and that it's NOT impossible to overtake. I would hate for them to drop it for another anonymous street track or a GP at another Petrostate.
Don't write off Checo yet. This season he will retain the WDC P2 position as his stress management is much better this year than previous years..

I think bringing upgrades to tracks difficult to overtake might be a waste of upgrades and data. Upgrades for Monaco might pay off but as 19 drivers are going to be stuck in traffic, and a few are at risk of binning it, Spain is the better track for upgrades at this time in the season, and potential (famous last words) chance of no rain, critical to maximise upgrade data. especially in this cost cap era! George being left and right cheek, an ass!

Ferrari should tell Haas to go find a new engine supplier next season onwards, Bahrain in Q1 and Q3 and now Imola Q3 Haas are there toeing Max.

It's interesting what's happening at Aston Martin. Everyone talks about how they started 2023. However, when you really think about it, 2023 started off with Ferrari and Mercedes on the back foot. Leclerc was pretty much locked in for a podium behind the Red Bulls in Bahrain before his engine blew up. I think Aston Martin's so called awesome 2023 start should have some caveats to it.

Verstappen and Perez have a similar problem right now. The redbull is worse than the other cars on the hard tyres, it was the same last week as it was this week. That's why Perez' Strategy didn't work out and that's why lando was catching max. I don't necessarily think it's setup.
It makes no difference how close other teams come, are they faster than RB, and can they show it regularly to make race winners slightly unpredictable. You can see the airflow of the car when Perez went through the gravel. As you said Max had issues with the hard, therefore would Perez not have issues on the hard? Not making excuses for Perez, but just saying.
Getting to Max is one thing, overtake him is quite a different thing. Especially at Imola. I’m very surprised no one is mentioning that. British bias once again?

McLaren has been the fastest car on race pace the last 2 GP’s and the final stint at China was on par with RB so let’s not say Max has a great advantage. That’s just not the fact

Ferrari is in trouble, McLaren might have overtaken them as the 2nd fastest car on the grid. They better hope and pray is only track-dependent. Not only was Ferrari not fast enough in Imola, tire management has worsened with the new upgrades too. Plus, they still lack straight line speed.
