Those training had developed skills that they eventually established as part of their identity as an idol. Say for example Lee Seoyeon. She mentioned that Take a Bow was a must for all trainees in YG at that time.

The hardest thing to do is what SM does, which is complete connection and close to no obvious transition between head voice and chest voice as this takes the longest to learn and stabilize. My parents are vocal teachers and singer, my sister is a musical actress and classical singer, and while I'm studying classical percussion, I've also conducted choir, had vocal lessons since birth and sung professionally. If you watch clips of JYP talking about the techinque/sound he wants and watch his vocal teachers teach, it is very obvious what sound they are after and how they create it. Same with YG, both JYP and YG style can only be obtained by not closing your vocal chords completely. SM's vocal coach was on Sister's Slam Dunk season 2, and he always mentioned closing your vocal chords and not switching into head voice right away, but rather mixing your head and chest voice. He worked miracles on Somi, Jiwon and also Minzy (who are both very good singers)as wel as the rest of the cast. And he did that by using the things he would teach an SM artist.

여타 아이돌 그룹들이 자주 얼굴을 비치지 못하거나 사람들이 수많은 여러 아이돌 그룹 등장에 관심을 덜 가질 수도 있다보니, 자기 노래만으로 그룹 인지도를 높히는게 쉽지 않아 보인다고 생각했는데, 이렇게 커버를 하면서 되려 그룹 내 개개인들의 실력이 확 드러나면서, 이런 실력의 친구들이 모인 그룹이 어디냐 하면서 찾아보게 되네요. 제가 프로미스9에 대해 잘 몰라서 그러는데, 이런 식의 커버곡을 간간히 개인 또는 그룹 전체가 한 번 불러보는 것도 괜찮을 듯 합니다. 지금 시국에 밖에 잘 안나가는 상황이니, 예능에 나가는 스케줄 잡는 걸로 고생 하느니, 커버송으로 아이돌 본연의 노래와 춤으로 기본기도 홍보하고, 솔로곡을 팀 곡으로 재해석도 해보구요. 그 프리텐더 커버곡을 일본 친구들이 리뷰하는걸 봤는데, 팀내 보컬 담당도 아니고 댄스 담당이 이 정도로 곡 해석이나 음색이 좋다고 놀라는거 보면 팀 전체가 가끔 움직여 보이는 것도 생각해볼만 하지 싶어요.
