I grew up as a kid proclaiming to be an atheist because of church hurt. Hearing 2pac rap about God in the mid 90’s was one of the first times I really considered theism and that God maybe personal. Later hearing dmx’s prayers to Jesus opened me back up to the idea of Christianity. God used very flawed people to plant seeds. Then when I was in high school a girl I was dating invited me to church. It was honestly because of being warmed up to the idea of Jesus from music I went. I kept going. A few years later I finally surrendered to Jesus and haven’t looked back ever since. I say that to say, God and hip hop don’t have to be incongruent.
Avoid those that have the knowledge of God but lack the power of God. We are to be separate from the world not blending in, sugar coating the message of repentance.
JCole feature yes please! And the streets need Jesus. Now that we have these opportunities we need to be reaching and seeking these secular rappers with grace, not judgement like someone once did for us. Jesus came to seek and to save the lost.

Not hating at all crae, I just don’t understand how we have rappers like the few you mentioned, Travis Scott, Dababy, etc. who will talk about God and say they have faith but then promote the sins Jesus died for. I cannot judge their relationship with God, I just don’t understand how so called Christians can glorify sin and God in the same songs.

Crea, this is a great lecture that should be taught in the Universities. As a teacher, I know when you are delivering a course. This course should be developed and probably named: Hippop Gospel: the gospel of the street.
That's ultimately why I gravitate towards hip hop. I may not share the same stories as some artists, but I find relatability through their authenticity and vulnerability.

I hear you homie, but I do check fruits (not judge aimlessly), and you really got to check what "God" they are talking about. I see many people serve more than 1 master. The fruits will show you if they believe in Jesus Christ being the only way to our Father. 2pac, Dre, Snoop and all of DPG, Lil Half Dead, Cube, Game, G Unit, and Em were always bumpin' in my ears. I hear them all mention "God." Again, I hear you on being authentic and real. On the movie "The Show" Dr. Dre said "It's all entertainment. Anybody in theyre right mind...ain't gonna do what they talk about on records unless theyre stupid. It's entertainment, that's it. It's our job." That changed my perspective on so much since then. I work my way off but won't condemn them I see the word of God as it truly meant to be. But all GLORY to God the FATHER and Lord Jesus Christ whom is the only way home. Each sinners dead to FATHER till they see the error of this world's ways and return home and ask FATHER for a servant job. He has many opening. His kingdom is awesome. If you seeked to see and BELIEVE to know and understand.

What's up! Let's not forget Tupac's Black Jesus. I don't think it was as acceptable to be pro-Black and rep Jesus back then, but Tupac started repping what he called Black Jesus like Florida on Good Times.
Also, I probably should have shared this earlier, but one of Tupac's producers came to Harvey, IL. years ago and preached the gospel of Jesus Christ. He had the awards with him he'd received for producing tracks for Tupac. He shared that a lot of people don't know this about Tupac: "But Tupac would be backstage calling on the name of Jesus because his music attracted a lot of street people and Pac was scared and did not know what to do."
