In the Mouth of Madness is good, but I reckon Carpenter’s Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, and the other two parts of his Apocalypse Trilogy, i.e. The Thing and Prince of Darkness, though that film was ultimately unrealised, to be better movies. Arguably even Dark Star, Escape from New York, and They Live despite the script being a bit off. The Fog is good, too. Not as good though.
