    This is one of the best constructed of Jimi’s solos. A perfect example of how he played. And ... it’s the first. Just WOW

    • @munkeyinspace5331
      @munkeyinspace5331 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is… you can tell he played the solo knowing it would be reversed and it’s just as mind-blowing as the backwards version. I just recorded a song of my own that drew some inspiration from this (just borrowed the scraping sound basically) and then finally thought to listen to the solo forwards after all these years… Now I want to smash my guitar to pieces and cut off both my hands

  • @rayvan23
    @rayvan23 8 ปีที่แล้ว +68

    I was just now listening to the album, and remembered I used a reel to reel back in '67 to hear what the reversed section sounded like. Played the samples for friends, then forgot about it for 49 years,,,,but KNEW that someone must have done it on youtube. So THANK YOU, and your's sounds 1000% better that what I did all analog way back then. Can't wait to share this with those of my friends from that time still alive : )

      It's great to hear that iconic backwards guitar
      ..forward...even forwards jimis note selection tone and feel is just amazing ...backwards it's out of this world especially the high Octave that comes towards the end ( beginning on this recording).of the solo....that's the money note as far as this song goes....lots of great stuff here ...I still find this to be one of the most anxient and futuristic at the same time type of tunes...and in the day of digital.effe ta and whThVe you....amaing this was down on 2 four tracks And with drums bass guitT. And someone bNdiing on a. A flat note on a piano.it sounds like.....

    Pure genius, forward or backward. Many have been inspired, learned from him, emulated him, many have even surpassed him on a technical level... but who cares? One thing's for sure... Jimi was one of a kind. He will always be a god to me. Amazing. Thanks for this vid... it's on my faves now.

    I always thought the sweet sugary tone of this lead came from it being backwards, but I guess not, since it sounds just as sweet forwards

  • @kennopalus

    There will never be another one like him , nobody has possessed a feel for the guitar like him . He's totally unique unto himself.
    Technical ability is only one aspect of guitar playing , the ability the make the guitar sing is a gift !

  • @mda037
    @mda037 11 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    This sounds really great forwards. I think this is the first time I have heard this version. Soulful and psychedelic at the same time.
    I wonder if Jimi created the solo knowing that it would be recorded backwards, or if it was the product of an afterthought later on.

    • @ddesign63
      @ddesign63 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      mda037 their is a interview here on youtube with the original sound engineer. He says Jimi planned it and came in with the tape after just one night of preparing it. Then the engineer put it all together. Jimi was nothing less than a genius.🤘🏾🤘

      There's an interwiew with Eddie Kramer where he explains that when Jimi wanted a backward solo he used to have Eddie reversing the backing track so that he could take it home to practice on it, and the next day he would show up with a solo that fitted perfectly

      Frank Zappa obsessively recorded everything he (Zappa) ever played, and often used guitar solos from live shows in studio albums, such as Joe's Garage. I can't remember which one it was, but there was one awesome solo he reused at least twice.

  • @michaelconsuegra7316

    I'm glad the backward guitar solo is played foward on here. Now we can heard how it was actually played.
    The solo sounds great foward and backward. Both versions should've been left in the song.

    pretty crazy ass thing to do in studio especially at the time for sure. It'd be cool to see a full analog set up of this and and ultimate taping of some sounds he made whilst recording them. One thing I did hear was he was actually quite vocal shy in studio... dunno how true that was but if people know I'd love to know.
