- Om mani padme hum is the mantra of compassion, an ancient mantra lost for many centuries and then rediscovered and popularized.
This mantra traveled from India to Tibet and possesses powerful transmutative properties.
Legend has it that it was used to transform evil demons into protectors of the dharma (religious and moral law).
It can be found inscribed on stones and flags, as well as on jewelry, and is kept close to protect both the home and oneself.
Its vibration frequency is so high that it has a purifying effect.
🎶 LYRIC: OM MANI PADME HUM
OM, the first syllable, made up of A, U, and M, symbolizes the practitioner's impure body, speech, and mind, as well as the pure body, speech, and mind of a Buddha.
All Buddhas were once like us and became enlightened through the path; Buddhism holds that no one is inherently free from faults or fully endowed with good qualities.
The pure body, speech, and mind are developed by gradually transforming the impure states.
MANI, which means jewel, represents the elements of method-such as the selfless intention to attain enlightenment, compassion, and love.
Just as a jewel can eliminate poverty, the altruistic mind seeking enlightenment can eradicate the hardships of cyclic existence and the isolation of solitary peace.
PADME means lotus, the two syllables represent wisdom.
Just as a lotus emerges from the mud without being tainted by it, wisdom enables you to navigate situations without contradiction, which would otherwise arise without wisdom.
HUM. Purity is attained through the inseparable unity of method and wisdom, symbolized by the final syllable hum, which signifies indivisibility. In the sutra system, this indivisibility refers to wisdom influenced by method and method influenced by wisdom.
In the mantra or tantric tradition, it signifies a single consciousness embodying both wisdom and method as an undifferentiated whole.
