    This is almost better that an airbag. Mechanical, no electrics that could fail. Genius!

      And also stainless steel wires that are inside a plastic housing so they could not rust

      All fun and games until you have to replace the engine and/or transmission seeing that the cables are wrapped around them. Which is why this system didn’t last long.

      They never used the "Vorsprung durch Technik" slogan in the US, so there's no reason why she's American. Neutral English accent doesn't mean American.

      I know I'm later, but at the time they didn't have airbag duhh. and I prefer this over airbag because airbag has to be changed after 10 years and you can have problems with the sensors etc.

      +sam arnold in the 80s the Airbag was expensive and I assume there were few vendors for selling it. So Audi thought about a differente, les cost expensive solution. It is not just pulling away the steeringwheel, it althow tightens the front seat belts - so u sparse out the belt pretentionr device too.

    • @beeindruckendetechnologie2467
      @beeindruckendetechnologie2467 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Fetii 27GZP None of the "old" vehicels are "save". It was the idea to jsut save the money for the airbag that was expensive back in the days. DIsandvantage is obvious. The mechanic is pulling ver hard if you speed up an crash, pulling it out of your hands. The savety belt gets equivalntly hard tighten up. Some recources claim even low speed was totaly ruinig the car.
      You can not control the power cause of the fakt that steelrobes are pulling. And it will not operate at a 40° offselt crash.
      Nice idea but not for today.
      Yes indeed, the airbagsystem can be dangerous too. Manufactors just wonna make money and give a damen about your savety I assume. Its just for selling.

    • @Fetii
      @Fetii 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Beeindruckende Technologie None was safe? What about the cars which didn't have airbags or procon-ten? Were they safer than the cars with airbags or procon-ten? Or was there no difference between them? It seems like there isn't after i read your comment.

    • @beeindruckendetechnologie2467
      @beeindruckendetechnologie2467 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Fetii 27GZP Airbags started in the 1960s in the USA to protect passengers who are not using seat belts. Due to the lag of savety the development and deployment has been shut down till 1980 when Mercedes launched the driver airbag in the S-Class. Porsche 1986 the passenger airbag.
      But no one was performing "crashtests" and/or was forced to publish results. It was because of Ralph Naider and his book "unsave at any speed" that Lyndon Johnsen introduced the worlds first governemnt organastion that should ensure savety on vehicels.
      Long time nothing. 1989 European ADAC startet to test the savety of normal cars. 1995 the german stiftung warentest made shocking results on crashtests with deformiable crash barrier. Later than the Euro NCAP was build. Many oter including Australien NCAP and China NCAP were followed.
      And yes: NO one were publishein any results in crash testes. Vehicles were build way to soft at the passenger cell. No computers in the 70s or 80s were used for simulations like nowerdays.
      Thats it. IN the year 2000 the waren test made a crashtest of Golf 2 vs GOlf 5 Crashtest. you can watch the cell collapcing at teh A-Level. Sorry, no video here on you tube.
      None of the old vehicels are considerd to the "save". Security fitment dous not matter if the passenger savety cell is not strong enough.

    I doubt that Pro con ten would have already triggered with this damage. To do this, the engine block has to move, which was never the case here. But nice advertising!
