    I'm on my CAT-8 rating on PilotEdge and this seems like miles away for me to handle. Looking forward to the challenge though. Great video.

    I have never flown IFR so when you moved to the panel view @21:00 and stayed there, I thought I had lost my mind LOL
    BTW, Controller @ 29:30 was my controller this morning for my CAT 9 - Super patient, super helpful, I was a bit discombobulated here and there but he didn't bat an eye and helped me without making me feel like the complete noob I am :)
    IFR still seems well beyond my reach for the moment but this video has helped me to catch of glimpse of what's to come.
    Thanks

    Wow! that is some of the most pristine hand flying I have ever seen that was a privilege to watch

    Hiya! You can get rid of the yokes by assigning a button to the task: "sim/operation/toggle_yoke"
    Cracking video- thank you!

      Thanks, Jeff, I learned that shortly after shooting this video and used the trick in the next video. The switch used to be on the panel, so they had me tricked for a little while there.

    How Keith remembers those taxi instructions without writing anything down may be the 8th wonder of the world, lol! I wish I could do that!

      Well, it helps if you have flown out of the airport a billion times and know what it's going to be before they even say it....but aside from there, even If I was hearing it from scratch, it's just 20L @ K via A H C. The ATIS in real world would tell us 20L/R are in use, so the runway isn't a shock...that brings it down to four distinct pieces of information: @ K, via A H C. Short term memory is typically good for 7 items, this was only 4 :)

    The show/hide yoke feature can now be used using a key assignment or joystick button instead of the old cockpit switch 😉

    Keith, I had a lot trouble hearing and understanding what you were saying since it seemed like the ATC, other pilots and plane noise was quite a bit louder than you. Or do I need to make some change to my audio settings? Thanks for all your work. Definitely a huge help to have PilotEdge.

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kirk, you're not hearing things, the audio levels are poorly balanced between my voice, ATC and the ambient audio in the sim. I no longer have the source footage but will strive to re-record the I-Ratings at some point. Watching it back, I can work out what I'm saying, especially based on the context, but it's still more work to hear it than if the audio was mixed correctly, my apologies.

    Just taxi directly to the maintenance hangar and get some new tires. The plane seems to taxi smoothly with flat spots on the tires. :)

    Thanks for the great video! At 1:45, I could hear the ATIS information clearly since the prop wasn't running. Is it possible to record the ATIS voice as clearly as that, even if the prop was running? Maybe on a separate audio channel? I haven't figured that part out yet, so can't record ATIS information in an audible manner when listening to ATIS in the air before landing somewhere. Wondering if you have any ideas...

      turn down your simulated engine/ambient noises (simulating better noise reduction headphones) or increase the radio volume?

    • @StudentPilot4Life
      @StudentPilot4Life 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@coma13794 Wow, that was it! For some reason, my radio volume was not at max and the engine sounds were. I haven't tried recording but I am pretty sure this will work. Thank you!

    Strange. With the wind coming from your right, I'd expect the needle to also point to the right during final.

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The crosswind wasn't very strong and it was a pretty fast final, hence the xwind correction was minimal.

    Great video. I’m new to xplane and I do not know how to start a new flight with the plane at the FBO instead of the default on runway or 3-10 miles out? Could someone be of assistance... thank you

    Engine sounds much too loud. Could not hear what you were saying, as I'm a beginner on XP and using charts this could have been of great help if only I could have heard your voice

  • @totoritko

    Alright, I'm confused. You swapped from ground to tower short of 20L on your own. AFAIK, the regs say only to auto-swap if you are holding short of your assigned departure runway, not just any old runway on the field. This seems to apply especially so at KSNA given that 20L and 20R are covered by different tower freqs. I asked about this once on the ground frequency and got reprimanded that I should auto-swap, but everything I read on this always only says "when holding short of the assigned departure runway".

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right, I should've technically advised ground that I was short of 20L. The reason for my shortcut is there are really no operational conditions under which they're going to have you contact the 20L tower. And since tower owns the taxiway between the runways, about the only instruction you're likely to get when holding short of 20L is to contact the 20R tower.
      You should never have been admonished for checking with ground, though, for the reasons you've mentioned.

      Have to agree. I'll reshoot it when able. I have a smoother PC now, and the ATC audio has improved with the VHF modulation since then.

    Frame rate looks a little laggy there. But otherwise great video. I have a ways to go, just got my CAT 3 done few days ago.

      @coma13794  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the scenery in the area is pretty heavy, as well as the clouds. Between that and encoding 4K video in real time without hardware assistance, that's a lot for my system to take. Hopefully it still conveyed what it needed to convey :)

    you didnt identify the dme on the ground, only the ils and vor.. Otherwise that was an amazing flight. It was a fast circuit!

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DME is paired with the NAV radio, hence it's not something you can separately identify. The option to identify DME only exists if you have a standalone DME receiver (with the ability to tune DME separately to the two nav radios). Glad you liked the flight, otherwise.

    • @davejones542
      @davejones542 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dont agree. Press DME on your audio panel without nav - every 30 seconds you should get the DME ident. The fact that DME is colocated with VOR doesnt mean it cant fail separately. It is seperate equipment in the ground station. This is certainly the case the UK.

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tried it for 2 minutes...total silence. I'll look further into it. I always assumed that identifying the DME portion only applied if you were tuning the DME on a separate unit to drive the DME head.

  • @SteveKirks

    Keith- your audio is a little low level compared to the others...not too bad, but can be a struggle to hear when ATC is talking...

    • @coma13794
      @coma13794  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed, I should've run the audio tests to include engine and the other ATC. Am contemplating reshooting it, awaiting some nice, low weather or I might just set my own.
