Love this series so far and love this game so much! A tip without spoiling anything, make sure you’re harvesting old clothes to repair the ones you wear. Once they get ruined to 0% there’s no saving them.
This is my absolute favourite game. I play this every year between November and February. My advice, play the first run how you want to. Don't worry too much about too much stuff. This game is meant to be played more than once. Enjoy the experience and disregard should and shouldn't do. But that being said, a few tips. 1. For all the medicine there is an equal part in nature. I.e painkillers = rosehip. 2. For fires, light a torch first with a match then build a fire using the torch as the firestarter. 3. Dont run. It will get you farther walking, as you lose less calories when walking. 4. To restore constitution eat something before going to bed. You recover faster that way or you can pick up birch bark, the white/grey bark, and brew that into a tea. You can also drink herbal tea before bed. 5. Drinking coffee gives you an energy boost. It's always good to have a cup or two on you for emergecies. Now, here's hoping you might make a series playing survival or some of the challanges.
I don't know the story of TLD, all I know is that Chapter 5 doesn't exist yet and the aurora borealis has something to do with electronics acting berserk. (Just taking a guess, it's oddly convenient that the second an aurora started, your plane's electrical system failed) But I am calling it now, that old guy is Mackenzie in some form, either as a hallucination of their subconcious or their future self somehow. Because that jacket feels similar to the one you have, blue with yellow highlights. It could explain some weird stuff, like how he made it down the canyon wall without a rope if it's supposed to be the *ONLY* way out of town aside from the collapsed tunnel, or how he witnessed you deciding the convict's fate.
You’re exactly right about the lights causing electronics to go berserk. Rather, I think it has to be solar flares causing the lights to appear and for the electronics to act up. The game never mentions the sun but it’s one of the causes of auroras… and apparently once every twelve years the sun’s solar flares get super intense and people start worrying about planes falling out of skies and such. Your theory on methuselah… I never thought about that but I love it. I have a different theory.. it’s kinda crazy… but I’m familiar with his name. It’s biblical. Apparently he lived for a thousand years or something. Makes me compare him to the old bear… who I’m wondering was the same bear in the trapper’s story, making the bear over a hundred years old. I’m not necessarily saying methuselah is the old bear but….
There is no point in hoarding in Wintermute, repair and craft what you have to their lightest and most useful form (i have no idea why you aren't doing that with all your papers) while you wait for stuff to cook, thoroughly check interiors - no point in rushing- . always have bandages and a light source (torch is simplest and lightest) and an extra pair of gloves. Food that can be cooked probably should be cooked as they give you calorie bonuses and a cold-resistance buff> maybe take a few minutes to read the info section when they update
@@JaySwayGaming yeah, it's not necessary to convert all wood and paper to tinder, depends on how much of a pyro you are. I usually make sure that if I am leaving shelter i have a dozen tinder, 14 sticks (combined with (4 or -?) cloths you can build a snow shelter), a half dozen cloth and bandages, and about 1.5-2L in fluids (this can include teas and pops, I always drink pops as soon as I got enough chunk on my fluid and calorie meters to save weight. In survival mode I would carry a book as they drastically increase your firestarting chance but IMO Wintermute it's not worth the weight penalty, but OTOH, since you lose everything between chapters in Wintermute there's also no point in hoarding stuff unless you plan to craft, but you don't get to keep that stuff either. breaking stuff down and crafting I would always wait until a blizzard or during cooking so I am not wasting time, sleeping in 4 hour increments in shelter and 1 hour increments exposed

you should find the lake there should be a train wreck near by where you can find a gun with some ammo
