My first thought (before you brought it up at the end of the video) was “this is a fun song... I wonder if Ellis will have fun watching it” (regardless of your technical analysis of the instrumentation). Now we know. Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did. Of course, I never gave much thought to the backing track, but as this was directed by Angelina’s Grandma (correct me on this Angels, if I am wrong), it makes sense that she would take extra care in selecting the back-up instrumentation, as was done with “When You’re Smiling”. Just sitting on the couch, they pop on the back track and she lets it rip! Etta James style. To hear Etta's version is to understand just how good Angelina's performance is as she incorporates much of the same feeling. Interesting fact: I've read that she holds the mic backwards by mistake since she's never used it before. Someone more musical would have to confirm that.

I am a vocals guy but I don't listen to the words either. I listen to how the voice interacts with the melody and then it's onto the harmonies. I've gone years and never knew what the words were.
