In the 1970's - 80's European disco was extremely popular in the Soviet Union that i come from. This is smthg that surprised me once back in 1997 in the US. I witnessed a Vietnamese man listening loud in his car enjoying a Sandra song. She was no longer much popular by that time. Let alone no Americans listened her songs in 97
For the American and British listeners the lyrics of these songs were poor, I think that is the reason why bands like Modern Talking, Bad Boys Blue or Joy, singers like C. C. Catch, Sandra or Lian Ross were popular literally everywhere in the world except for the UK and the USA.
The original trio consisted of Alfred "Freddy" Jaklitsch (lead singer), Andy Schweitzer (keyboard) and Manfred Temmel (guitar). Freddy Jaklitsch does not perform with JOY any more, he concentrates to his own project in Austria called Die Seer (a kind of folk band). Michael Scheickl is his substitute in JOY. He used to work with JOY back in the 80s, he was almost like a founding member. He is also a great Austrian singer who had nice singles back then. Unfortunately Manfred died in 2019 so he is no longer with us either :(
